Proving yet again that we're quick to migrate if it is cheaper. Ideals & altruism are poor drivers for us.
True, but I think it still depends on ideals and often subsidies to get a technology to the takeoff point where the effects of Wright's Law really being to compound.
Way back, I had a friend who bought an early hybrid saying that she thought it was a somewhat stupid car that was too expensive for what it did, but she wanted to encourage technology that would lead to electrification of the auto fleet.
In other words, without a few idealistic early adopters, you never get to the "cheaper" phase or you get there much much later.
Side note: this far more general "law" developed in 1936, has actually been a more accurate predictor of semi-conductor advances than the more famous Moore's Law.
