Actually, that's not nearly as bad as I thought from the headlines.
I was thinking they were harvesting data and sending tickets to people based on evidence from their GPS data.
This is sort of halfway between that total Enemy of the State (I think Person of Interest might be a better reference) dystopia and long-used traditional methods of identifying areas that have a lot of accidents and using that to target enforcement.
Obviously, the big difference is that accident data is public data that you expect the police to have and functionally give them access to it as a condition of having a license, whereas I don't recall giving them access to my cell data. But then, I didn't give it to any advertisers or toll fee scammers either.
