Too bad about the increased tire particles.

Yesterday, I was thinking about this while towing a trailer downhill in the PHEV.

We were well outside the EV range so running as hybrid, but I turned off hybrid to deplete the battery before a big hill. Normally, with an ICE engine or a full EV battery, I would dissipate the energy going downhill by generating heat in the engine or the brakes. Instead, could charge all the way down no brakes and no engine compression braking.

By thinking ahead, because we knew the route, we did this all the way home and got close to 40mpg while towing a small trailer and hardly ever touch the brakes except when coming to a full stop or when something unexpected happens. In other cases, if you gently touch the "brakes" it just runs the electric motor in reverse and charges the battery.
