I guess everyone has seen the news by now... wow, how tragic.
[edit because of miscounted body count]
appears to be a bit of a shitty day all round today :(
I'm fairly amazed so many people walked out of that building alive.
Equally surprised at the gunman's choice of targets, and the time it took swat to capture him ...alive(?) What a mess.
And a homegrown terrorist as well. I think those are the worst kind. Traitors....

No idea if this is genuine, but claims to have been made by the guy they arrested

It's a terrible thing.
from: http://news.yahoo.com/norway-suspect-wanted-european-anti-muslim-crusade-134428674.html
QuoteA manifesto he published online — which police are poring over and said was posted the day of the attack — ranted against Muslim immigration to Europe and vowed revenge on "indigenous Europeans," whom he accused of betraying their heritage. It added that they would be punished for their "treasonous acts."
The lawyer for the 32-year-old Norwegian suspect, Anders Behring Breivik, said Sunday that his client wrote the document alone.
QuotePolice and his lawyer have said that Breivik confessed to the twin attacks, but denied criminal responsibility for a day that shook peaceful Norway to its core and was the deadliest ever in peacetime. Breivik has been charged with terrorism and will be arraigned on Monday.
Geir Lippestad, Breivik's lawyer, said his client has asked for an open court hearing "because he wants to explain himself."
QuoteThe assaults have rattled largely peaceful Norway, home to the Nobel Prize for Peace and where the average policeman patrolling in the streets doesn't carry a firearm.
QuotePolice took 90 minutes from the first shot to reach the island — delayed because they did not have quick access to a helicopter and struggled to find a boat once they reached the lake. Breivik surrendered when they reached him.
QuoteThat brings the number of victims to 93, with more than 90 wounded. There are still people missing at both scenes. Six hearses pulled up at the shore of the lake surrounding the island on Sunday, as rescuers on boats continued to search for bodies in the water. Body parts remain inside the Oslo building, which housed the prime minister's office.
Wow.
It looks extremely well written and organized. When I saw it was over 1500 pages, I assumed I might just see one long sentence...
If true, he spent 3 years writing his manifesto and several more years planning to do something big.
From bits i've read he believes the socialist/left are to blame for allowing Muslims to become majority in Europe in coming decades; so instead of attacking Muslims he's attacked the Labour Youth(future socialist politicians) :o
I blame people for not noticing. (or for noticing and not telling)
I mean SHEESH!
>From bits i've read he believes the socialist/left are to blame for allowing Muslims to become majority in Europe in coming decades;
I had a watch of that video posted above, he also believes that European ideals have been supplanted by Marxism since WW2.
There are legitimate concerns about multi-culturalism, extremism, national identity but he's definitely not going to be the poster child for any just cause. Good luck fathoming his frame of mind for those that are going to read his 1,500 page doc!
>he wasn't was stupid
no, I have to say he ranks right up there.... has strong, well laid, voluminous argument, he obviously believes it, he can't be immediately dismissed as a raving looney, he actually pulled the trigger on ~80+(?) people, and blew up a major building... he is a legitimate worse case scenario.
QuotePolice have lowered the death toll in the youth camp massacre outside the Norwegian capital to 68, down from 86.
Police spokesman Oystein Maeland said that higher, erroneous figure emerged as police and rescuers were focusing on helping survivors and securing the area.
Maeland also said the death toll in the bomb blast in Oslo before the shootings had gone up to eight, from seven. That puts the total number of people confirmed killed in the twin attacks at 76, down from 93.
I was expecting that PDF to of been removed by now, it was even mentioned on last nights news
at he end he goes into great detail of how he made the bomb and what process...........yikes

never read that far :( guess im going to prison then, downloading a copy and sharing the link are both a crime in the UK :o
To be capable of such a crime you would imagine a slavering lunatic, but by all accounts he appears to be very calm and calculated. When coupled with the fact that he was able to construct a 1500 page document in his second language that is coherent, it makes deconstructing and ridiculing his central argument more difficult. Simply because of the breadth of the argument there are going to be nutjobs out there that will latch on to one delusional element.
If his document was badly constructed and written poorly it would be easy to ridicule regardless of actual ideology behind it. The fact that he is clearly intelligent and can construct an argument (regardless of how wrong it is) will make it harder to pick apart and show to potential future followers of his argument how plainly wrong his thinking is.
From what I heard, Norway doesn't have a death sentence and the most he can get is 21years, total. I would think each murder would be 21 years, if convicted, but I do not think they would be served simultaneously, the way I understand I hear it may happen.
In 21years, he walks?!?

I believe this sentence and process of containment (as they call it) will be relevant here
Indeed. He's never getting out. No politician in charge of home affairs would ever allow it. Or the public. Which is pretty much the same thing.
hmmm looks like he was not wrong in his 1500 page document

There are extremists in every branch of every faith (except Buddhists, one assumes) - just look at Northern Ireland and they believe in the same God, ffs.
Its sad that anyone tries to justify their pathetic immoral take on ohers by relating it to religion, its nothing to do with faith, its to do with sad little people living unhappy lives and trying to blame someone else for their problems. Twats.
*sigh*
take the hint and all agree these people don't represent anyone but themselves, no discussion needed :)
First of all, Jason, this quote needs to be put in our quotes thread:
QuoteOne twat does not make or define a faith!
Secondly, I don't think I've ever heard Gurtie talk smack about anyone. Or use the word 'twat'...
Just sayin...
