I feel like we're only now just starting to understand the damage that algorithmically-delivered short form video is doing to our attention spans and communication abilities, but I'm still stuck on how microblogging paved the way for it

The Reaper has been around for a long time in drone terms, at least since the Obama Admin if not earlier. And who knows how many years it was in design before it ever entered production.

Drones were new back when the Reaper was designed which means everything was bespoke and therefore super expensive with no off the shelf parts.  And drone warefare has changed very rapidly in the last 4 years but little or no innovation or design coming out of the US.
