I'm looking for a new monitor as my old one bit the dust. I usually have my mac laptop set up as one monitor and then have another one beside it..enough for me.
I'd like something large, but not huge: 22 to 24 inches is about right for me. The thing is, I rather have a small monitor that is crystal clear than a large one that is not so much...
And I'm not sure if I should go LED or not, but I do like the idea of using less energy as my little office gets REALLY hot during the day.
What do you guys suggest?
I usually buy dell's midrange monitors when they go on sale, but have always had the luxury of waiting for a sale. Their IPS monitors are great. LEDs are nice for not putting out so much heat, which isn't a huge deal for one monitor. With 6 it makes a difference.
Whatever you choose, best to go for one that you've seen @ work in a shop nearby. That way, you can make sure it has no dead pixels.
I have a cheap-ish 24-incher which is pretty good, be it that it *only* conforms to standard standards when it comes to dead pixels. Of course, there HAS to be one dead in the centre!!!
YOu know. I"ve had good luck with Dells as well.
I'd love love love to get the new Apple THunderbolt model, but at near $900 ($600 if you look in the right places) I'm don't want to drop THAT much on it...although I use it all the time and it'd last forever...but still..
I'm not sure if there is any difference between the LED vs LCD...I"m still trying to figure that part out.
I recently picked up three LG 22 inch flat screen monitors in A1 condition for £30 from a charity shop. I was equally delighted and gutted having paid £150 for a new one the week before. Worth keeping your eyes open if you are near a high street.
The thing about LED, it's still an LCD, the backlighting is just LED instead of CCFL (fluorescent). There are true LED monitors, but they start in the low thousands.
LED - more uniform, cooler, more efficient, thinner & lighter
CCFL - can have spotty uniformity, dims over time, tends to yellow over time
