This kinda reminds me of other historical fast adoptions of tech like how fast TV caught on in the US.  In just a few years everybody was shifting from radio to TV's only with EV's the US is not leading the way.

A climate change denier friend used to always say, "What about Africa with all their population growth?"  I laid out the numbers on historic total emissions, actual current total emissions, per capita emissions, and new projections on population and made it clear that Africa is not the cause of the problem. It actually changed his mind.  He literally said, "I can't believe I'm saying this, but you changed my mind."

So it was with that in my head that I read the Ethiopia news (not actually news since they passed the law in 2024 but rcjordan FAILED to post about it, so I didn't know)

That discussion was about 5 years ago. Now I see Africa rolling out clean energy projects and adopting EVs and think that it's not just that the US is falling behind China in more and more areas, we are starting to fall behind Ethiopia in critical tech.

Who other than Hans Rosling would have predicted THAT 20 years ago.
