Two reports that suggest that AI is impacting the real economy
1. Graduating into Disruption: Labor Market Outcomes for AI-Exposed College Majors https://www2.census.gov/library/working-papers/2026/adrm/ces/CES-WP-26-56.pdf

Census Bureau report on recent college grad employment. Average wages and employment rates are being pulled down, but mostly because of downward pressure on CS grads
QuoteWe find that graduates in the top decile of AI-exposed majors experienced a fve-percentage point decline in their likelihood of employment in the quarter after graduation in comparison to graduates in the bottom six deciles of AI exposure. They also saw declines in associated quarterly earnings of about thirteen percent relative to the least exposed felds, attenuating to about fve percent after two years. Taking into account the role of partial employment during a quarter, our estimates for the most exposed graduates are comparable in magnitude to the effects of entering the labor market during a large recession. The employment rate of new college graduates remains high even at short time horizons, reflecting the typical pattern of quick transition into the labor market. However, we find that negative changes to these patterns are concentrated in the top decile of majors, which are composed largely of computer science, information systems, and other degree felds closely related to software development
Note that one big confounder is Work From Home which is hard to disentangle because among college graduates WFH has a 0.88 correlation (highly correlated) with high exposure to AI.

"S&P 1500 Software revenue per employee has gone parabolic. If you are looking for evidence that AI is starting to impact the real economy, this is exhibit A."
