Title: Florida sunsets...

...every year around this time we get these tragic sunsets and sunrises.  Just epic.

Yeah.  And if you could imagine the whole sky like that...

For me, it's all about sunrise/set and mountains.  I like things BIG.  The grand scale.

And what can say more things at once than the sun? It is the closest, most powerful thing to us. Sunrise here, is sunset there, light in-between, and dark somewhere else, all at the exact same instant... and that 'instant' continuously happens every instant like the second hand of a clock around the earth, with it's shadow creeping ever westward... everything 'true' across the entire spectrum, from light to dark, simultaneously - no where else do you see this so clearly.

Even captured in a 2d image, 649 pixel wide, it so powerful it drops jaws.  That just underscores how powerful it really is, imo.

I think the secret to the weirdness is the sun is reflecting off the ocean, back up at the clouds in those glowing ones...

For me, it's all about sunrise/set and mountains.

The issue is that the mountains usually get in the way of at least one of those...

...looks like that time of year again. Last couple mornings seem more intense than usual.  There must me something about the Fall down here (if that is what you want to call it).  I don't know what would cause it - more pollution, more water vapor, I'm not sure.

It must just be the angle of the Earth and the angle of the sunrise/sets.  My house faces due South, so sunrise is on my left and sunset on my right. I've been down here for several years now and there is definitely a period of time where everything seems exaggerated.

I like sunrises better. They are more special, more quiet, more personal.  It reminds me of when I was a musher and would train before dawn and watch sunrise, over the back of my dogs, with mist rising off them from their hot breath on crisp Fall mornings. Those were intense moments in some of the most mountainous, remote, beautiful places. The smell, the sound, the feeling of riding the cart - it's like every sense you have on fire -  and then all of a sudden, dawn breaks over the mountains and you find your senses just overwhelmed.

And by the time you loaded the last dog in the truck, it's 8 o'clock, and you drive home accomplished, passing people that just got up and are heading to the office, oblivious that you already killed the day before they ever got their first cup of coffee.

Isn't the thing with sunrises/sunsets that they look better the more the air is polluted?  :o We're in for a treat in the future eh?

>sunrises/sunsets that they look better the more the air is polluted?
yeah, volcanoes are known for causing crazy skies.

>your back yard
Yeah, this place has been outrageous.  South Florida has definitely has its issues, but it's strong points more than compensate most of the time.

There is no mortgage on this property, but it's about $20k/yr in taxes and insurance, plus upkeep... I imagine you could rent a place like mine for $4-5k/mo. After this I'll probably rent a little one bedroom on the inter-coastal for ~$1200 or a highrise looking at the ocean for maybe $1.5-2k. Or a cabin in the Smokey's:)

I suspected you might be busy, but keep me tuned and then if it's not storming insanely bad, we'll grab a bite or something. Rumbus and I missed each other on 95 so the bar is already set pretty low ;D

I missed this morning's peak by about 60 seconds, but it was a good one...

...Its amazing how short your window is to snap a picture.  The only regret looking back though is I should've had real camera instead of shooting all these on my iphone.
