Title: Secondary Monetization Methods
Post by: agerhart on November 09, 2010, 06:17:57 AM
Our main property is monetized via traditional ads and we are working hard (very hard) to build up a secondary revenue line via lead gen..we need a second leg to stand on.

But there are other secondary or tertiary monetization methods that may not impact the user experience or browsing patterns.

For example, we've discussed selling the user data via services like BlueKai.

We've already implemented Vibrant text ads.

Or we could take the email addresses on our list that aren't in our target demo and let someone else monetize them on a rev share basis.

What else?

With direct advertising, you can do whatever you want.  There are all kinds of ways you could integrate links on a page for a sponsorship fee.

Looks interesting. How's that working for you?

We have something similar here www.openadex.com but it needs some more advertisers.

Andrew, maybe bluekai is like this, but you can sell user retargeting info at sites like lotame.com.  The way I understand it is that they'll pay you for it, or you can offer it up in a marketplace of sorts to other third parties.

Google and other affiliate networks have taken our users' retargeting info for years and don't give us jack shit.  Not a bad idea to actually get something for it.
