I am now officially racked off with FF. I keep getting warning of 298MB usage with one window open!
So chrome is the way forward.
Any suggestions of good extensions, like showiP etc
Cheers

Dying to dump FF. Just waiting for Raven to release the chrome toolbar.
However, here is what I have currently installed :
Check My Links : Quickly check for broken links on a page
ChromeIPass : Keepass integration (not needed by most people)
Linkparser : Quick follow/nofollow checking on demand
MozBar : Sucky data at your fingertips
PageSpeed : well - you know it
Scraper : Nice way of quickly ripping data / links off a page
SEOquake : Don't really like it, but haven't found a better option
Web Developer : goes without saying, although it isn't as good as the ff one
My recommendation: as few plugins as possible to keep the beast from crashing.
To put your numbers in perspective, Chrome is currently using 296MB of memory on my laptop with ZERO windows open (just noticed it was running in the background for the offline GMail option).
I love the simplicity. It bugs me now on other browsers having to think about which box to type a query and which to type a URL, but because of stability issues, I have to avoid Chrome.
Ironically, on my desktop computer, the one sure recipe for crashing Chrome and bringing it to its knees is simple: visit *any* Google property and Chrome crashes. Not sure why. I don't have that issue on my laptop, but SERPs, GMail, anything on a google.com domain brings Chrome down on that one computer.
On my personal machines I use
SRWare Iron, a Chromium fork that doesn't call home to the Google mothership. The downside is that you have to download and instal upgrades manually. Otherwise it works just like Chrome.
Here are a few extensions I've found handy:
- NotScripts - Like NoScript for FF it blocks all page scripting unless you allow it.
- Ghostery - Alerts users about the web bugs, ad networks and widgets on visited web pages...and blocks the if you choose
- KB SSL Enforcer - Force page encryption
- AdBlock - Block them ads
- Web Developer - nuff said
- FireBug Lite - inspect, edit and monitor CSS, HTML, JavaScript and Net requests in any web page
- EyeDropper - Chet color information off a webpage
- SEO for Chrome - SEO stats and tools. All sorts of useless info about the page you're on...
- LastPass - remember all your passwords
Pixlr Grabber - Screen capture/image grabbin
