So I finally got around to listing all this old crap on ebay - old receiver, gaming stuff, pc parts, random electronics and all sorts of miscellany. I have been amazed at how easy it is.
With a shipping tape gun and weight scale, most of it just goes out to my mailbox.
So far I've sold about a third of it for 800 bucks. I should've done it sooner.
I have so much stuff I have never gotten round to. Loads of old records and all sorts of stuff.
Just seems like so much hassle.
Yeah that's why I kept putting it off. Once you get rolling though there's nothing to it.
How are most of the payments made? Paypal?

Yep, all paypal. They take the postage out of your paypal as well, and you can defer that until you've actually got the funds available in your account from the buyer. (They hold it for a week or two until you're an established seller.)

Not earmarked yet, but we do need to upgrade some appliances. Plus it's almost warm enough for the lake and I'm thinking about a jetboat.

those you may want to hold onto, because I think they will become/are already collectible... but electronics for the large part just become obsolete and depreciate from there.
They have already reached that stage. Some are 30+ years old and at $100
I need to out them, space and money.
I've made several purchase on eBay in recent weeks, and was getting inspired to unload some things. This thread gives me another nudge in that direction.
There's a woman in our town who does a fair bit of selling on eBay, so I'm going to hire her. Yes, I could do it myself but sometimes it's more efficient to just hire someone who already knows what they're doing.
First target: I've got my brother's agreement to sell off some of our mother's wedding china which has been in a box for ten years.
I guess you can outsource, but I think it's kinda fun to do it yourself. You get to use all your seo skillz:) I guess it all depends on what/how much you have.
As far selling records, do it! I just meant some things don't appreciate with age, so they are better to just dump. Other things may still need to ripen. No idea how record sales are these days.
There really is nothing to it. I think the most time consuming part was digging the stuff out and figuring out what would sell or not. For just a few bucks I give it to the local charity thrift store outfit. Search for your item, see what the prices/bids are, and then click completed listings to see what they sold for. If the item doesn't get a lot of bid action, make it a BuyItNow. I sell almost everything BIN since I know what I want for it.
Take an actual decent photo. If it's a bigger ticket item, and a couple more photos would be worth it, take them.
Give free shipping on some/most things, figure the shipping into your BIN price.
When something sells, I just box it and weigh it. Print the label out for the USPS which ebay bills to your paypal after the funds clear. Put in/at your mailbox.
Profit.
Some things I have sold for more than I paid for them. I bought them, used them a couple/few years and made money reselling.

I was standing behind this mook at my post office who was sending all sorts of shit. I heard him say that none of it was urgent (2nd class post), this made my blood boil as it meant I missed the post due to him turning up not long before close of business. I was not happy, my document was über important. Can I say wanker?

Those guys are funny in line, I've seen them. Usually very badly dressed, I mean like lumberjack shirt hanging open, taped glasses, dark socks and shorts. Amirite?
What's even funnier is if you get a good gander at their packaging. I think they'd reuse the meat packaging tray from the grocery store if the cellophane would hold up.
