I've been really impressed by the quality of posts and energy here. Positive attitudes too. Great start.
I think if we can maintain high post quality, low noise, and a working man's level of expertise, this has a lot of potential.

My only "bad" is a worry about it going "open". We all have our own axes to grind here, and we all have our own ways of making money from the web.
The group is great, as it is open, non judgmental.... just web folks chatting together.
It is rare I think (certainly in my little world) for such a diverse group to come together.

We recognise each others nics here and that does increase the level of trust between us, even if many here have not yet met. (OK so I changed mine, but that was because George is my middle name, is too much a real name, so was a crap nic. Rupert is my real name, I answer to that)
Open, would bring in loads of WMW newbie questions. Loads of people coming in and out very fast, stripping the goodness and moving on, without adding anything to the group.

I like it though and already picked up some useful "tips" that I have been able to action.
Also good there seems to be no hidden agenda or hierarchical bull that blights some forums.
Trying hard to restrict the time I spend here though, but that is tough.
It definitely was a good idea to open this new version up to the public. Lot's more activity now. I'll miss the old Core, but what we may lack in depth here, will be more than compensated by breath of discussion over time.

Remember when you saw your first real rugby match --you know, the one with blood smears and broken bones? Your reaction likely was WTF and not "Oh, man, I really want to do that." You guys/gals can do site reviews and assure them that they need a good title tag and lots of links with kw anchor tags if you want but I'm pointing them to better resources like seobook or wmw. The players we want will be back, drawn to the game.
The Islington level is easy. We're passing through that now. The next big test is the Barconference (Irvine) level. Plain and simple, I made the wrong choice of direction there and we ended up in Boston. Unfortunately, Travoli witnessed the whole thing at Irvine so I can't blame it on Rumbas.

Hah! Irvine was great. Still can't believe my boss approved a corporate-sponsored trip to "Pubcon" in California. Then again, he resigned shortly thereafter to work for the yellowpages. Heh!
I'm most enjoying the specific posts: the reviews of content providers, cheap labor, software, etc... because I am just getting back online. I also enjoy shooting the breeze about future-oriented macro issues.

The openness and willingness to share has surprised me, it's great. Lots of actual benefits, plus the water cooler. Couldn't ask for more.
The only thing I would change? We should have done this years ago. (though the dynamic may be different now for a variety of reasons)
First, I must whine some more about the profanity filter: Really, we're all adults here, aren't we? ::) Ok, now that's out of the way...
1. Great to see all the old nicks, very happy about it on a social level.
2. Think it might help get me off my arse and back onto some old projects I've either abandoned or left stagnating. (If only because everyone seems determined to pay tuppence/word for "quality" content creation and $5/ea for "quality" logos, so my whole subcontracting idea is pretty well dead unless I move to the Phillipines or hunt down corporate clients—neither is on my todo list.) So where better to be to pick up the widest possible variety of top-quality info on exactly how best to do that? Hurrah!

I'm pretty sure that's where we were when Yahoo did the "Red Arrow Day" thing. I remember watching dogboy and oilman (amongst many others, I'm sure) standing at the public access internet terminal repeating "damn" every 10 seconds or so, as they checked another domain and saw another one tanked without the Y dir promotion. That was a sobering lesson, even at second hand.
More on the topic at hand, so far it feels like WMW back in the days when I could read every post every day. That's probably not unconnected with the fact that a lot of the people are the same ones
Love it so far. I think there is a great balance of real info and shooting the bull. Thank you all for contributing to this place so far.
Reminds me of WmW circa early to mid 2001. Like someone said I could almost read every new thread back then and most of the forum nicks here go back then. Also a bit of early Threadwatch before that fell apart.
Honestly, the software does not much matter, it is the people who make the community and so far this is a compliment to you all.

Took the words right out of my mouth. However I have less time in the day it seems. The Unread list gets longer each day...and I don't want to miss any of the posts. No more taking breaks from the forums on the weekends I guess.
