Splintering off from our multilingual thread, I wanted to ask whether anyone here has done much SEO in the Russian market?
I could do with picking the brains of someone with some understanding of the space.
My understanding is this...
Yandex rules the market - something like 65% marketshare, with Google taking most of the rest.
Yandex turns a blind eye to / actively credits paid links. Google hates paid links as we know.
Wondering whether Google is more likely to accept the market conditions fostered by Yandex and similarly turn a blind eye, or are they equally active with anti-manipulative linking algorithms in Russia as they are elsewhere?
do you know Nick Wilsdon? Looks like he's back in the UK now but he was doing SEO in Russia for years. He might be worth hunting down for a chat?
>Nick Wilsdon
Yeah, he's the guy that would know. Used to post to Threadwatch.
Ditto for Nick, didn't know he was back in the UK though - doing what?
according to LinkedIn, working for Arena Media. I only know him on a 'paths cross, nice guy' basis so I don't know more than that.
I might say hello now I know he's back. And tell him their website is down :)
>And tell him their website is down
and to pop over here and join the fun.
>Nick
Was trying to remember his name, thanks
Nick Wilsdon every time and yes he and Anna are now over here with sprogs too
I've bumped into him a few times this year but I know he is saying he is very very busy
