Title: The Middle East may have problems but the US has a real crisis on its hands

Twinkies snack cake production may be disrupted.  They picked a helluva time, too, with a couple of states now approving pot.

Dang. I never thought of the pot connection.  This may be a conspiracy.

Bet they wish they never went on strike now.
Shame, I never did try them, was I missing anything?

Not really. Well, sorta.  In some ways, Twinkies created the packaged junk pastry market (Hostess followed some years later by their truly artery-clogging fruit pies).  The only other snack that ranks anywhere near Twinkies would be Moon Pies, but the latter were/are? regional while Twinkies went national.

IMO, in this case I think the product is so iconic and has such a powerful individual brand that I have no doubt that some other company will buy the rights and continue to produce it.

Yeah, I bet they come back.  One of their competitors will buy rights to the name and start making them again.

Oh Twinkies.. I remember Toolman introducing them to me - together with Butterfingers and Snowballs. Phew.

RC had me try the Moon Pies also.

Those moon pies look a lot like the wagon wheels here in the UK but with no so many flavours - http://www.burtonsbiscuits.com/our-brands/wagon-wheels/

Twinkies are only good when deep fried.

Twinkies are fine for a quick sugar rush but Moon Pies are a heavy-duty, manly snack. Big. Heavy.  Chocolate, marshmallow, & graham cookie (sorta --it's hard to describe. There's a hint of flavored cardboard in there somewhere.).  Definitely an acquired taste.

>flavors

I think MP has branched out to vanilla and banana flavors in the last decade or so. That's heresy, imo. Chocolate. End of discussion. Thin, crappy chocolate, too, to separate the true believers.

Exactly.

Actually, everything is better when deep fried.

If a cook really knows his stuff, deep fried seafood becomes a true art form. Other than that, I prefer other methods of making food tasty.

I'll add here that both Twinkies and MPs have shrunk to about 2/3 their original size, maybe less.

You sure it's not because your hands were smaller when you were a kid :D
That's what they say about the wagon wheels here.

Funny thing.  I've never actually tried a Twinkie.  Mom always talked about the evils of junk food, so we didn't have a lot around the house when I was a kid.  And, I never really developed a taste for it.

Now, I kind of want to buy one to see what all the fuss is about.

Ironically, I have had a moon pie.
