Title: So I went out to Walmart on Black Friday
Post by: rcjordan on November 24, 2012, 01:01:03 AM
I was hoping to see some amateur Sumo wrestling. Nada. Zip. Store was busy but not packed. It was evening, though, must have missed the action.

Reports I got:  Costco busy but not mobbed, but Costco had few BF sales, Walmart the computer area had a huge line at 6AM of people waiting for some laptop sale that started at 10AM.

That is all I heard.

Well what the heck did you buy? You must've made it the best BF yet.

Nothing.  The door checker looked very puzzled.

Apparently spending is up on last year by 13%

I bought a 32" LED TV for $250 CAD... decent price

Yeah, that's really most of the reason I wanted to see for myself as there was so much BF hype on the intertubes.  I was just taking a pulse on my own. It looked strong but reasonable. That's good.

The US economy is setting itself up to come back, we need to quit hanging on every word about Greece/Spain/Germany, though.  And this fiscal cliff bs.

It's not just Black Fridays any more, it's the Orange Thursdays and the White Mondays now.

We drove through a strip-mall with a Target and a Toys-r-us at about 10pm Thanksgiving night and it was packed with people.  There was a line around the corner to get in as they were metering people into the buildings.

Also note worthy, I know a bunch of people who have recently bought new cars.  It seems that Americans are spending money again.

Yeah, the pent-up demand is so strong you can feel it.  Housing shows a small spark of life, too.

We interrupt your regular programming to bring you this news bulletin:

GASOLINE has dropped below $3/gal in much of the US.  Even in NC, a high gas tax state (by US standards), gas is $3.14.  The fiscal cliff thing is just a poker game and will be over soon.  IF gas prices break the psychological barrier of $3 and hold anywhere around it, the recovery will be off and running.
