I've got a site where traffic basically dropped off the face of the earth a few months ago. It hasn't come back as usually happens, so taking a look, an unfamiliar domain shows when I search info:mydomain.com.
My links are relative, so the domain basically works as theirs. I'm going to change them to absolute which will likely fix the problem.
This unknown domain has no links, so I may be under penalty and why this is getting mixed up. Or, it could be a major part of the problem.
Any thoughts?
There really is no way to keep someone from redirecting to your site is there? I can move the site to another host or ip, but they can just update their dns pointer.
Strange though, anyone ever seen something like this?
Can't you just have a blanket like for like 301 on your.htaccess?
Not sure I follow you.
Now that I've made the links absolute, only the home page shows on their domain.
Wait, you're right, I forgot you can redirect http_host. That did the trick.
First owned the domain in webmaster tools tho. ;-)
All fixed now, we'll see if the rank comes back.

Ha ha - nice touch!
Well, got around to looking at this again, and the rip off site is still in G's index.
WTF? I 301'd everything 8 months ago.
Google doesn't seem to have a handle on their product, ridiculous.
QuoteAnother possibility to check is something that happened to me once, that someone has left some old DNS settings pointing at the IP address for your server.
That can happen by accident when someone takes a site down but leaves the DNS as is, and it can cause your content to show up on their domain name if your site happens to be the default for that IP address.
It's a problem when it happens, but it's not usually malicious. There's a good chance the domain owner doesn't realize it's happening, and there's also a good chance they'll update their DNS if you contact them with a polite request.
Check the name servers for the domain that is mirroring your site and see if you find any clues there.
You could also ask your host to make sure your site is not the default for the IP you're on.
The above is copied from http://www.webmasterworld.com/website_technology/4202743.htm but it was my own post so I figure that's okay.
Is it still negatively effecting your traffic/rankings ?
redirect the redirect maybe :
RewriteEngine on
# Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} badsite\.com [NC]
RewriteRule .* - [F]
I've never used disavow can you do it at the domain level?
Realised that code i posted won't help.
Seems the site has a penalty, letting this crap show up in the index.
Makes sense now.
