Title: Winamp shutting down
Post by: rcjordan on November 21, 2013, 12:11:10 AM
"Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013. Additionally, Winamp Media players will no longer be available for download. Please download the latest version before that date. See release notes for latest improvements to this last release.
Thanks for supporting the Winamp community for over 15 years."

Times are changing. When I started seo, it seemed like everyone was stuffing meta tags for winamp or porn.

Isn't winamp open source?  Someone else could just pick up the code and keep running.

AOL ran them into the ground from the sounds of it. I don't recall too many things AOL has open sourced in the past.

Never used it.  Had MediaMonkey for years, works a treat for:

Loading to phones, ipods etc/playlists/podcasts
Added:  Also good for tagging files, and there are scripts for swapping/reorganising tags etc.

As well as ripping, finding tags off amazon.

I hadn't kicked the llama's ass for many years myself. Good to know about MediaMonkey though. I wish there were an open source alternative, but it seems that MediaMonkey is the package to go to according to many sites.

I hadn't used Winamp since 2009 when I fully switched to Mac as my main computer, can't even imagine what I'd use if I had to go back to Windows

You mean you have to use itunes? Doesn't that grate, the way they move stuff about and store it where you cannot find it?

I think there are options besides iTunes, I am actually pretty happy with iTunes, guess I got used to it to the point where it does not bother me

Well I don't really tweak my music much these days, I just play it... When it comes to dropping some of it onto the iPad, it's all done within iTunes. I don't need to put it elsewhere as I don't use any other devices to listen to music. When I need to back it all up to an external hard drive, I also have no problem as I know where those files are stored physically. The only downside is they take twice as much space because of existing in two locations... but ok, my hard drive is big enough... I dunno...

Well, I am trending more extreme....  I keep trying to do stuff on my daughters ipad, and it keeps making it difficult for me, or charging me for apps that are free elsewhere.

apple just seem to have a way of irritating me at every corner, so that I now look for the negatives not the positives.
