I'm in again. Just had 2 rather good workouts this weekend from not doing jack for 2 weeks. Auch, can't lift my arms.
Week 1: 2/4
Here I thought I wasn't going to get any signups! It may just be you and me this time Ras.
Week 1 - 0/4
I had a nasty stomach virus that kept me from eating for a few days. I dropped like six pounds, but was too weak to work out.
I need to get onboard. Strangely, now that my watch tracks my workouts, I can't remember how many I've done, which has been my hangup. Now I sort of wish I'd gotten the model with bluetooth...
Anyway, I'll plug it in and get last week's numbers.
Thanks for keeping us going LM
no problem
week 2 - 4/4
Ok, I'm in, starting today. (for 5)
I'm a bit weak though, fortunately the liquor ran out this past weekend.
Wow, I can't believe lm finally missed a day, must be your first?
I missed a whole week! I got pretty sick and lost a bunch of weight. I think that was the first time I missed a workout since we started logging them. Glad you are with us Dras.
Week 2 - 4/4
Good to see ya both Dras and ergo :)

Doesn't matter, still lost weight! lol
Glad you're better tho, and thanks.
Week 1: 2/4
Week 2: 3/4
I'm trying to get Mrs Ergophobe to join in... I should get Buckworks to work on her since they're Pubcon shopping buddies.
I just put in a new home gym (see attached photos).
[sorry, didn't realize my photo viewer was autorotating them, but ya get the idea]
Nice Styrofoam rocks ergophobe! :D
I'm in, but off to a very slow start. The new year holiday in Japan is not conducive to exercise.
Week 1: 1/3
Week 2: 2/3
Hahaha, Atlas Stones! Nice one ergophobe. However I think they need to be 100+ kgs to qualify :)

QuoteStandard stone sizes available are - 80kg, 105kg, 120kg, 135kg, 160kg, 175kg and 195kg.

I think one of mine is 80kg. I will say that the irregularly shaped rocks are harder to lift than a barbell so they probably seem heavier than they are... and I'm afraid to put the heavy ones on my scale. I was planning to build a lifting platform and buy barbells, but while building my patio wall I realized all I need to do is save out some rocks of various weights and the same effect is achieved. I love being able to clean and jerk and then just let it drop, which the absolutely hate in the gym.
These rocks are awesome. I got 'em with a lifetime warrantee.
That's pretty cool Ergophobe.
They are awesome!

Week 2 3 - 4/4
Week 3: 4/4
Week 3: 3/4
Did a few short sessions with the "Atlas Stones", but nothing to count. I did run 13.2 miles (21.2km) which is farther than I've run since I injured my calf in 2010, so that felt good.
Week 3: 5/5
Week 3: 2/3
Week 4 - 4/4
Is Week 4 done already? We're already in Week 5? I was behind a week!
Week 4: 2/3
2/5
Week 4: 5/4 woot!
Week 5: 3/3
Week 5: 4/4
Week 5 - 4/4
3/5
Just back from 7 days in Death Valley with no internet access....
Week 4 - 3/4
Week 5 - 5/4 - would have been 6/4 if not for a punctured tire requiring a trip into town one day.
Week 6 - 3/3
Week 6 - 1/4
You guys are good.
I assume a "workout" is a personal thing, and that putting in:
"Lifting a pint of beer several times" is only kidding yourself?
If so, I might be in. I never do gym stuff, but if I can count: Squash, cycling, swimming or running then I would like to go for 5... Just my better half has put my name down for a couple of Triathlons this year,, and I need help to get up to being able to complete.
Week 6 4/4
Welcome aboard Rupert! A workout is up to you to define.
Littleman... OK thanks... so last week... week 6?
3/5. A start.
week 6 - 6/5
Dismal....
1/4
I'd be curious to hear more about what you all are doing by the way. I don't know if people just don't have the time or feel like it clutters up the thread, but I like hearing about people's successes and challenges. It gives me a little extra motivation than just everyone putting up numbers every week.
My week: too damn lazy to get out in the rain, so did nothing except shovel the driveway and then finally on Sunday go for a run... during a rainstorm... in up to about 8 inches of wet soggy snow. It was surprisingly enjoyable - the getting out the door was the hard part. Once out, it wasn't that unpleasant.
I'm playing vball 3 nights a week, usually have a double header one of those nights.
I'm trying to get into the gym 4-5 times too, but working in a new co-work location out of the house, I'm having trouble getting to the gym early enough to get to work early.
I'm going to try to get into the gym at 7:30am tomorrow.
I'm actually visiting a gym with all the muscley types. I lift or push heavy things. However I'm not in it to become a knot of muscles. I'm just trying to maintain a certain level of fitness. My routine is pretty boring and hasn't changed for a few years...mainly bench press, squats, chin-ups and leg press.
Cool! You guys just motivated me to go out into the yard and lift my natural Atlas stones for 15 mins
3/4
Well, the snow (all 5" of it) closed the gyms for workouts and volleyball, so I got 2 sessions in before the city shut down.
If I felt ok calling kiddie pool snow skiing behind a 4wheeler a workout, I'd have 4, but I don't.
2/5
>kiddie pool snow skiing behind a 4wheeler
Redneck Olympics? ;D
Week 7 - 4/4
Welcome aboard Rupert!
Week 7 - 3/3
Thanks Bill.
Wk 7 first week for me l3/5 . perhaps the target is too high.
At a show sat sun mon tues, so difficult fortnight.
>Redneck Olympics?
Yep, that's what I was going to call it if we could have raced the johnboat down the street.
Rupert - excellent. We need some fresh blood!
I'm 5/4 for Feb 10-16. I've lost track of weeks.
This week is not going to be a good one for exercise. I'm shooting for 2/4
ergophobe thanks. Another difficult one for me too. Managed a Run today, first of the week. Might get a good swim tomorrow, but squash is cancelled, so perhaps a cycle later on is all I will manage if I am lucky. Still, that's why I joined. The target is difficult!
I'm not going to count it as part of my 4/4, but I'm working in a 12 story building and I've started to take a break and climb it a couple of times a day -- I generally hate cardio, but exploring this old building is sort of fun and it has an amazing view of SF at the top.
Sounds cool lm! Since I've started working from downtown, I get a lot more walking in daily. Makes a difference, surprisingly.
7/5 this week.
3 x vball matches (1-2)
4 x gym
Week 8: 2/3
a busy week...too much work not enough gym time
3/4 - more than I expected for this week and definitely would not have done anything today if not for the Commit!
2/5.... walk of shame.
Week 8 - 4/4
Rupert, 2 is better than 0.
QuoteRupert, 2 is better than 0.
I know, just that sunday, there I was having a pint trying to persuade a couple of mates to join me doing a triathlon. I can talk the talk, but can I walk the walk? ::) :P
Rupert - I think the reason this group has had such sticking power is because it's a little nudge in the right direction. So question 1 is "how many times this week?" but question 2 is "how many times would it have been this week if I didn't have to report in?"
For me, I would not have gone running in the cold and snow on Sunday for #3 this week, but once out there it felt great.
3/4
you guys are great!
+1 for last week. I went dirt bike riding all day Saturday (and yesterday) at an off road park.
8/5
man, I'm beat.
6/5... dad went into hospital Thursday, so I went out for a run 3 mornings. Otherwise Swim/Squash/cycle. A good week.
7/5
gym x3
vball x2
riding dirt x2
In case anyone is wondering if riding dirt is really a workout, motocross is the most physically demanding thing I've ever done.
QuoteIn case anyone is wondering if riding dirt is really a workout, motocross is the most physically demanding thing I've ever done.
Yea but.... ;D
Sorry about your father Rupert, I hope it isn't too serious.
Week 9 - 4/4 All weight training. I'm still climbing the stairs once or twice a day, but that just gets the blood flowing.
Thx Littleman. Its serious, its old age. (Hes 91)
Well done :)
5/4 - 2 weight, 1 run, 1 downhill ski day, 1 XC ski day.
Quotemotocross is the most physically demanding thing I've ever done.
Right, but what's the *second* most demanding thing you've done ;-)
Seriously - a hard day of downhill skiing is harder workout in many ways than a long XC ski and I used to ride a dirt bike. If you ride hard, it's work.
>Right, but what's the *second* most demanding thing you've done ;-)
Hmmm, tie between marathon sex and street fighting. Seriously though, playing two man volleyball for hours at a time, and how I used to do resistance training (lifting for 2+ hours with no break) are pretty damn tough and they ain't even close.
>Seriously - a hard day of downhill skiing is harder workout in many ways than a long XC ski and I used to ride a dirt bike. If you ride hard, it's work.
Yeah, just riding dirt is not too bad, I can trail ride for an hour or two and still be breathing ok. Motocross, on the other hand, is so demanding mentally as well as physically, there is just nothing like it in my experience. I often get off the bike pretty much gasping for air (after 20-30 mins), and I'm in pretty good shape.
I generally get phased by nothing physically. People who need help moving a 4-5 ton heat pump package unit or 6 person spa call me and it's nothing. But the track can kick my tail in a matter of minutes. Having been in a couple of fights, I'd say MMA would probably beat it, the adrenaline rush/dump and physical drain is similar. Don't know about skiing, only been once, but I could see how a serious downhill session could rival or top motocross.
Quote1 downhill ski day, 1 XC ski day.
More serious Envy. Missed swimming tonight, my daughter was in her first percussion band, so I missed my swim. A good swap though.
Note to self... do some dirt bike before I am too old.
Week 9: 3/3
3/4
Week 10 - 4/4
Who is up for another round?
4/4.
Sign me up for another round!
4/5
2xgym
2xvball
off week.
In again!
3/4 this week.
I hope I haven't introduced too much chatter for the purists by asking people what they're doing, but at least for me I really love seeing people post details instead of just a fraction. It motivates me more. I hope people are okay with that.
>> "my daughter was in her first percussion band, so I missed my swim. A good swap though."
The downhill ski was a two-fer - I gave a lesson to my 19 y.o. niece who, of all my nieces and nephews I've probably spent the least time with.
>> Motocross
I've never raced, but I have always heard it's incredibly demanding.
Well, doing the weights 4 times a week and adding some cardio - primarily cross trainer and tread mill. However tried a Jacobs Ladder the other day - look it up. Nasty stuff ;)
I like doing the weights and we're usually mixing in the 3 big ones; bench, squat and dead lifts. However some days are not just "heavy" days and we're doing dumbbells and machines.
Down from 114 kgs 3 years ago to 98 kgs this morning. Guessing I've moved 6-8 kgs of fat to muscle in that time as well. Could be a lot more anal about it and controlling my diet a lot more - however I'm hungry ;)
That's some awesome progress Raz. I've lost way too much muscle since shifting from more "power" sports to more "endurance" sports.
>251lbs->216lbs
Congrats Rumbus! That's while lifting too, so you've most likely lost mostly fat. Progress pics?
4/5
Run cycle racketball and squash
Week 10: 2/3
Too much work these days to keep up with you guys...but I'm in for another round!
3/4.
>Progress pics?
I'll see what I can do ;-)
