Title: FF Aurora
Post by: rcjordan on February 08, 2014, 03:48:01 PM
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora/

download link is bad. I used the installer file
firefox-29.0a2.en-US.win32.installer-stub.exe

found here
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora/

I'm testing it out with plans to leave Chrome. So far, no fatal flaws.

Locks up on gmail nav dropdowns but I'm sticking with it for a while longer.

Downlaoded, installed and using now.

First thing i notice is that it won't run at the same time as FF, that's a shame at the moment.

Second thing i noticed is that it automatically shares the FF data so no need to retype passwords, import bookmarks blah blah ..

Third thing i noticed is it seems to use the exact same user-agent string, as the stats are lumped in with FF standard in GA.

Also it seems to handle flash about 3 times more quickly, which is good !

Active-X heavy pages also load more quicxkly.

I like it so far (ten minutes !)

Good call RC, hadn't heard of Aurora before :)

update:

Aurora is my favorite browser overall.  The only advantage that Chrome has over Aurora is that Chrome sustains the longest php sessions I've found yet and doesn't time out.  (I've tried some of the FF session management and can't seem to actually extend timeout periods.)

Here are the extensions I'm using in Aurora.  They are mostly tuned for heavy-duty reading/link-management.

Double Click Close Tab .027

google-no-tracking-url 1.3.1

LinkVisitor 3.4.2

Menu Editor 1.2.7

Open in Chrome 1.5.3

Session Manager 0.8.1.0

Speed Dial [FVD] 5.1.0

<added>
They've fixed the issues I ws having in gmail.

I just wonder: why on earth should I choose Aurora (beta?) over regular Firefox?

Call me dim but I don't see it

I tried Aurora on my Kindle Fire. Better than Silk, but worse than Chrome.

Silk I can't handle with the slow connections I'm on b/c every time you look at tab B, tab A goes dormant. When you go back to tab A, it reloads the page. Completely insane.

Aurora just has small UI issues on the tablet that drive me nuts. Closing tabs seems unduly hard.

So in desperation for a decent browser, I tried Chrome and sorry to say, it's the best of the bunch for me by a significant margin.
