Makes sense.  ~90% of their revenue is from Google just now, they're in an excellent position to get away from the Google teat.

Yeah they need to become less reliant on Google.  Way back in dailup days just before Internet Bubble 1, Opera had both free w/banners and paid versions of the browser.  That browser made me blind to most banners.

With desktop and mobile browsers plus forks and a new mobile OS, Mozilla is really picking up steam.

I'm guessing this FF Aurora beta I'm trying is to be the new ad-infested stream.

Maybe I'll run it for a while then stop auto-updating.

It's great that Mozilla have woken up to value of tracking in deliverng relevant content. However, this is the browser that decimated targeted advertising revenue for millions of websites by leading the 'do not track' charge.

Tracking was the best tool we had to deliver a better experience. Privacy concerns needed addressing, but they used a sledgehammer to crack the nut. Between Do Not Track and the utterly ridiculous EU cookie law, many users now see all tracking as some nefarious attempt to invade privacy and are scared of cookies.

I'm still using Firefox, but only through inertia. For a long time it was the best browser available. This hypocrisy is just the motivation I need to move on.

I don't know how many people do it, but you can bet Mozilla does via the Test Pilot programme and other means, and wouldn't be pursuing it as an option if there was no money to be made.
