Title: Client retention ...
Post by: gm66 on March 05, 2014, 06:32:10 PM
Hi,

one of my clients, that i run two websites for, has dropped one now that i have him on page 1 of G for sixteen of his keywords :(

Trouble is, although his positions do vary a bit, they tend to stay on page one.

My business model was to charge low for basic SEO and get a high volume of clients so if more of them do that then i'm dead in the water.

How do people cope with this ?

Cheers,

Gary.

Charge more, charge monthly, control the backlinks. Client drops you? So do his ranks.

Well I'm sure others handle it differently, but I don't charge much up front.

I get it monthly, and if either party isn't happy it's easy to get out.

Also, I try to speak in terms of additional business brought in or sent to client, and what that is worth, rather than specific work being done to/for sites.

Well i've spent a few weeks now exploring how to  'control the links'.

I managed to beg/borrow/buy/steal :

Sliq submitter.

Xrumer.

Scrapebox.

Found a great DNS tool, Fast Resolver : http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/fastresolver.html

Found a great proxy-finding tool : http://free-proxy-finder-software.software.informer.com/1.2/

Decided i don't like doing things that way, now i charge per hour rather than monthly, and give clients an estimate.

I emailed Mark of seomark.co.uk (who i was at war with for the search-term 'small business seo uk', i'm currently winning at number 1!) and he sent me a pricing-model chart that was helpful in making the decision.

Did enjoy the foray into the blackhatworld of the dark side of SEO though, some great forums and conversations going on ;+}

atb,

Gary

What are you using fast resolver for?

Most of the work is getting them there in the first place, right?  Then just maintenance?
Is it possible to charge a large fee for the initial consult/work, then a smaller monthly fee for as long as they remain a client?

My install of awstats isn't resolving all of the host IPs properly so i use it for that.

Yes i was thinking of charging a low monthly fee to monitor and adjust accordingly.

Thanks,

Gary.
