Title: Yahoo wants to Replace Google as Default iOS Search
Post by: Brad on April 20, 2014, 02:51:10 PM
This explains why Marissa M. has been making deals with Yelp and others for local search data which would be useful in mobile search:

Kind of a long shot, but Apple would dearly like to dump Google if a viable alternative in search came along.  If Yahoo can conjure up a local meta mix that was darn good enough Apple just might go for it.

Didn't Yahoo lose all of its search engineers in the switch to Bing?

I still think Yahoo has a chance to put together a local meta engine that might be pretty good using Bing, Yelp, Foursquare and other sources.

It is a big IF.  Yahoo lost most of its best search people to Bing and Google when they gave up search, one bof the dumbest moves in Internet history.

It seems like such a waste to toss off all that Inktomi technology.
