I was just reading another article about there already are banks in the US that offer negative interest. The idea is that they loan out a lot fewer of their assets and therefore are leveraged a lot less. I've heard of some very wealthy people whose holdings exceed FDIC limits using these negative interest banks as a safer haven.

In 2008 or 09 the banking industry was suggesting that they were going to ask the US Govt for a subsidy or they would quit making 30 yr fixed home loans.

Honestly, I'm not making squat in interest on any of my bank accounts, so Mattress State Bank ain't looking that bad if they want to start charging me for deposits.

Wow. I can't believe you can get 30 year fixed deals over there. Rates on them don't look bad either.

25 year ones pop up now and then over here, but usually only at times when it would utterly scree you to fix for that period.  What are the early repayment costs like?
