I believe those track back to the monitors that recorded the strike, so you can see how the location was triangulated.  Then again, some are so far away it's pretty amazing they record the strikes?

Yeah, that's what I think. You can uncheck that option.

In the mid-Atlantic, watching bands of intense lightning strikes gives you a headzup on possible tornado cells.
