I don't even know what to say to that.
I imagine if I had a 17 year old daughter and heard she was dating a 57 year old, I'd probably call the police straight off as well... dunno about the bread knife thing though.
Um, yea. No way some 57 year old would be going anywhere near my daughter.
I wouldn't cut off his dick....but I'd make damn sure it ended.
Even if I had to ship my daughter off to Siberia :)
Whilst I agree with the sentiments expressed I just want to point out that some of us improve with age.
And if I had a 37 year old daughter (that'd be a trick!), I'd be more than happy to let her find out if that was the case. ;D
you're all assuming the guy was a predator here. I know one 17 year old girl targeted and married a 50 year old man purely on the basis of what she could get from the relationship..... The parents (stepdad is a relative of mine) were deeply unhappy and wanted to get out the breadknife, but the poor guy has now had 15 years of misery as the little slapper produced 7 children (some by different men) and has left him literally holding the baby while she has fun.
So, er, moral of the story is that girls who date much older men might not be the victim in the case (and also that if my dad was the type of guy who did that I too would probably be looking for a father figure I could love rather than be scared of!).
Yes, I'd definitely agree the girl's family has got to have problems. 1) Dad had to hear about the guy from "an anonymous source"?! I'm inclined to look sideways at the parent for a wholesale breakdown of family communication like that. 2) If a 17yo is interested in partners THAT much older than themselves, the whole "role models of healthy adult relationships" part of their childhood was seemingly absent, to what extent we often don't know.
Brings to mind a criminal case here in the US within the past year or so: A 13 yo girl was impregnated by her 31yo "boyfriend", and her family didn't know about it until she landed in the hospital after a self-induced abortion. Boyfriend admitted to the cops, after his arrest, that he'd disposed of the "evidence" in the woods nearby... nevermind the details. First thing I thought was, "What in the F**K is wrong with her @#$%^&*#@&%$# parents?!?!?!" Next was, "I hope the pedophile scum who called himself her boyfriend never sees another day of freedom in his sorry life." Although I'm sure he probably will.
In this case, was her family screwed up? Undoubtedly. But a 57 year old man who 'dates' a 17yo girl? Sleeeeeeeazy slimy loser bastard. And so was the 50yo who married the 17yo you know. And I can't help but wonder what in the hell went wrong with her upbringing as well. Sure, there are cases that show not all rotten kids had awful families, but I always suspect adults before children.
oh yeah. That bit of my family is a good reason to never attend a family wedding!. I say it doesn't come from *our* side of the family but when insane enough to marry into a dysfunctional family you can't escape all blame!
i don't know what the 'acceptable' age difference is to be honest. I have friends with a 20 year age gap (both ways) and they're genuinely happy. Which bit between 20 and 40 years turns it sleazy? Tricky call.....
It's "sleazy" when there is a child involved. Were she 18 (OK, only a year) then really, it's weird, but not technically sleazy.
Except I still think it's sleazy. But technically..it's not.
>>20
It is an interesting bias: a 30 year old and a 50 year old seems more acceptable than a 20 year old plus a 40 year old. I guess because I see the 20 year old as having their whole life ahead of them, whereas a 30 year old has more life experience.
Real life is sure a strange old thing.
Quoteall I know is that my daughter will be a virgin till she is at least 45
hhh, I always said 35 for my daughters, you've raised the bar on me!

See, I would say it's still verrrry sleazy at 18, it's just not illegal anymore. Legality is something with definite rules, exceptions and definitions. Sleaze is a total judgement call. ;) Having said that, I have a very hard time thinking of any 20+ year age difference that wouldn't seem sleazy if the younger partner is <25 or so.
Once you get to a 40 year difference? The sleaze factor may disappear once the younger person is in their late 20s-30s, but even a 60 year old woman with a 100 year old man would seem odd IMO. It's either a creepy daddy-complex thing below a certain age, or a weird nurse-caretaker thing above it.

all I know is that my daughter will be a virgin till she is at least 45, no matter how many boyfriends, husbands or even children she has before then!
LOL! Will she also never have done any drugs nor touched so much as a drop of alcohol? And what if she ends up lesbian, does that mean she'll be a virgin forever? ;D
I'd go ape shit.
Oddly enough just the other day Hugh Heffner (84) just got engaged to his 24 year old girlfriend. Nobody seemed to make much of a fuss about that.
That's because nobody's surprised when Hef does something sleazy. ;)
I just hope his "playmates" are well compensated. *eeewww*
hmm... can anyone find an original German report of this that pre-dates the Telegraph one ?
