Title: Spam scan on OUTGOING mail from my (virtual) server
Post by: Rupert on March 02, 2015, 01:11:46 PM
I am with Heart internet for my main email, and have been noticing recently that sometimes emails are not arriving.  I had been blaming the receiving servers, for their "Ridiculous" spam policies, but it seems I was wrong.  Heart scan all outgoing emails for spam.  They are stricter indeed on outgoing mail, than they are on incoming mail.

So several emails have gone missing into a void.  Work emails.  Important ones.  no spam.  Me conversing with someone else.

Like :
QuoteI am having difficultly with Bullguard email back up, can you help?

Or
QuoteJohn, can I order 10m of your nicest fabric?

I pay a reasonable sum for that server each year, and while I get the fact that I share the server with others, (sorry its virtual) I feel miffed that they are blocking my outgoings.  I cannot believe Talk talk or Google do this.  Or do they?

Anyone had similar problems?   it seems from the tickets there is nothing I can do about it, except write and I quote " make sure they are less spam like."

Jeez. They KNOW my name is not Jason....

Rackspace for email? If I were going to set up my own email Rackspace would be where I look first as they have been a dependable host.

I've never heard complaints about Gmail, but I hesitate to share any more personal or business information with them than they can already scrounge.

10 years ago Yahoo mail was rock solid reliable, but in the last couple of years they have played browser games with their web interface forcing me to login with approved only browsers. Plus downtimes. The browser bit has gottten much better since Marissa M. took over and Yahoo started finishing projects they start.

Business always looks much more professional on your own domain but in the US i've noticed many businesses use the freebies.

Shared host/ip for very important emails is not a good combo, though it's usually because of third party monitoring.

With the response you're getting for this, I'd say a new host/server is in order.

Outgoing email is normally scanned but they clearly are being aggressive with it.

If you want a low cost route, I'd suggest Amazon's SES. It would probably work out at a penny per month, but I would suggest setting up DKIM and SPF for your domain too. It's very simple to do and Amazon walk you through the DNS entries to make

You could use either Yahoo or Gmail with your own domain.

https://www.gmail.com/intl/en_us/mail/help/work.html
http://help.yahoo.com/l/nz/yahooxtra/mail/yahoomail/personaladdress/personaladdress-08.html
(think its $50/year)

I still use yahoo for my personal email, mainly because I don't like sharing more than I need to with Google.

Funny how everyone feels the same about google :)  When did that happen?  once upon a time they could do no evil.

Yahoo is still not expensive at $50.

QuoteAmazon's SES
cool. Never knew it existed. I guess there are loads of people giving away inboxes, so its not the issue, is that it Jason?
And Yes, they admit to being more agressive with the out going, as I guess there are so many spammers, and so many blacklists to keep your ips off.

I do have a server for the suits. I guess I could just set the domain up on that.  always liked the diea of having a couple of servers out there, one for redundancy.  Heart is the cheapest, so I guess I should expect it.

Great food for thought there Guys.  Thank you all.  Much appreciated.
