Title: Gillette and Schick the writing is on the wall
Post by: Brad on April 02, 2015, 01:59:49 PM
The newest fad going mainstream is double edged, safety razor shaving, like your father or grandfather used.

Reasons:

Part is a revolt against the high price of Gillette cartridge blades. The developing world still makes and uses double edge blades so there are dozens of brands and all dirt cheap.

It taps into the whole artisanal movement with trying different mug soaps, brushes, razor models and blades.

One of the stars of Pawn Wars TV show, is now hawking an entry level safety razor.

Nostalgia.

But wait there is more:

Cartridges razors like the top of the line Gillettes and Schicks have been copied and matched.

Companies like Harry's, Dorco and Dollar Shave Club have all come out with their own 4,5 or 6 blade cartridges that match the big guys but cost half or less of the price.

Dollar store clones.

Finally there are electric razors too.

It would seem that cartridge razor market is entering the same price and profit margin downward spiral that computers hit years ago

By my freshman year in college, I came to realize that having a light-medium beard was a great blessing.
