Title: UK Television Advertising Schedules
Post by: keano on April 27, 2015, 11:01:20 AM
Does anybody know where I could find upcoming schedules for TV advert breaks for UK television? Advert times and advertiser involved would be ideal. Thanks.

If anyone had it, would they share it?

It's a recipe for success!

I've been thinking about this. If we presume that no such data exists that is publicly available, which seems to be the case and makes sense for all the reasons I think we're all thinking of.... then the next best thing would be becoming aware of new campaigns as they launch.

There doesn't seem to be anything thorough out there at the moment so I got thinking and doing some very basic research. I now feel pretty confident I *could* automate collection, notification of all UK TV advertisers (and theoretically worldwide) at the moment a new TV ad goes live... but it wouldn't be a small task to create the system.

the system is available to media agencies, because I get media plans showing TV spots which are clearly produced from the systems, but obviously you need to be placing ads at whatever volume to have that access

I hope you're right Denise.

Just to check though do you mean the TV channel show schedules rather than the advertisements themselves? The TV launch schedules are available and readily so, however, I've not come across any public information showing the ads that are in the slots. The closest I've seen pre launch is when their own teams send out press releases.

I know we get data from our media agencies showing competitor TV campaign intensity retrospectively.  I don't know the precise data source

ah actually neither, I was thinking of the system that allows you to plan your ads, click where you want space and compile an order sheet.

reareading OP yup I've no idea how you'd get an advance list of booked slots with advertiser names. I don't know if that woluld ever exist outside of the channels internal systems (or their agency if they run bookings via a third party?)

Yup I agree. Post launch is definitely available and costs a BOMB from the media data companies but is often a monthly, quarterly spend analysis from what I've seen before.

I think I'll play and see if I can work up a real time launch data thingy...

I remember getting a spreadsheet from an agency that was managing an affiliate program that we were strong on at the time which contained 3 weeks worth of future booked in adverts for the merchant. The details included time slots, tv programmes they were scheduled to run in and the applicable channel. So I know at the time that merchant was booking their ads at least 3 weeks in advance. I've never seen any other similar sources of info though so I'm assuming its only available on a per agency basis if you know the right people.

yup - I have exactly that from agenies we work with.  I think (given the similarity of the files) that there is a central booking system which is used as a shopping list and from which you download a media plan and press 'book' but afaik only the ultimate host will actually have details of who has booked where. Everyone else just sees time available in each slot and cost alongside bookings made by them.

I don't believe that this exists outside the channels. it is too sensitive and not in the way that we're all thinking.  Brand advertisers would be playing a constant game of rescheduling to get one up on their competitors.  You'd have ad that started with the words "Don't believe what you just heard" as competitors grab neighbouring time slots.  Better still, ones that end "Everything else you hear in this ad break is a lie".  Media sales teams would have a nightmare of constant rescheduling.

Would be great to see if someone could get a week's worth in advance though with a lie about a thesis.
