I was just sending some (completely unsolicited but industry targeted) mail and decided to add my name to the subject, on the assumption that it would increase clicks, and it definitely has: at about 28hrs I am at a 27% open rate (twice avg) and a 1.5% CTR (exactly avg) to the site I am promoting.
<fname lname> - <subject>
...as simple as that. People never send spam with their name in the subject line. So that's what you do.
...make that 32%.
However, I never did a control (with the same exact subject line minus my name) but I'll take it for what it's worth.
Makes sense. MailChimp released a study a while back on open rates and simple, straightforward subject lines that clearly ID the sender and intent crushed cutesy clickbait style subjects.
The best ones were like "DogBoy's newsletter, May 2015"
The worst ones were like "Ready for Valentine's Day? Save up to 40%"
Good tip, I'll keep this in mind next time I'm hunting for links.
