Title: airline armrest tray support arm?
Post by: rcjordan on June 23, 2015, 11:53:13 AM
Anyone ever see one for sale anywhere? I want to hide a monitor in the left armrest.

I know people who design airline seats. Do you just need the support arm, or an entire armrest that the tray goes into? I can ask if they know of anything.

I just want the arm (and tray, if integral part of the whole assembly). With all these tv/monitor wall mounts available now for flat-screen mounting, I was hoping someone was manufacturing a tuck-away mount for when there is no wall available.

Not a very good pix of the tray arm, but this is the pocket-storage type of bracket I'm thinking of

The best/heftiest ones I've seen were on the bulkhead seats in coach. The first & business class go for haute design of the seats and may sacrifice some of the brawn.

Apparently the companies in that industry are notoriously exclusive and will probably not give you anything. If you manage to get a sample you will be then bombarded and spammed for eternity with questions. The message was don't bother with Asian manufacturers like Koito.

Thompson Aero Seating might be approachable. They're not top tier, but they make seats.

The bigger ones are Recaro, Zodiac, and Contour, but unless you're from Emirates they'll probably ignore you.

If that path doesn't work the suggestion was to find an airplane graveyard or aviation nerd shop.

This is the industry magazine: http://aircraftinteriorsinternational.com/latest_issue.php
You could check in there for suppliers.

There was some concern that this sort of arm mechanism might not be strong enough to hold a very big monitor.

Thanks, Bill.

Next time I'm in Arizona, I'm going out to one of those airline graveyards.

Overstock had an articulating Ergoguys armrest. I ordered it to see what parts could be cannibalized.

I'm now down to 3# total with my current experimental W8.1 desktop.  I'll update that thread as I get a little more seat time.
