Once again, I read about this first in Vernor Vinge books from 1992 ;-)
Not exactly, but the 3D solid state storage with massive information density (though not the speed component) is a component of Fire on the Deep (1992).
Since reading a few Vernor Vinge and Peter Hamilton books, everything seems like "Oh, that's finally here."
Ergophobe,
Can I just say thank you for recommending Vernor Vinge . I bought "Deepness in the Sky" for Sue at Christmas, and he enjoyed it so much she has just bought "A fire upon the deep".
In looking where to post this, I discovered you have been suggesting this Author since 2011. Finally I listened :)
BoL... I picked this thread as one of the last mentions... and a short one... hope you don't mind me hijacking it.
I'm so pleased! I love that story. Glad to have shared it with someone.
So Sue read it. Did you?
No yet... Sue is addicted to print, me less so. I enjoy a good Sci-fi though, so she is pressing me to read it next so we can share it. For me it would be a good book to take to Peru. Sue thinks that too far away :)
Print's not the only solution
