Title: Neat website downloader
Post by: Rupert on January 14, 2011, 11:57:43 AM
Just had cause to download a couple of my sites, that were built dynamically, but I want to shift them to static, and another host for various reason of ease, cost, and site speed.

Found this handy free tool:

http://www.httrack.com/page/2/en/index.html

QuoteIt allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the "mirrored" website in your browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. HTTrack is fully configurable, and has an integrated help system.

It works.

WGET (http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/manual/wget.html) can do similar, it'll recursively work through the site and download the structure including folders, with options to exclude file patterns.

I think there's also an option to change absolute links in the site to relative... all from the command line.

We also used Jobo for a long time. Will do complete downloads as well:

I knew that one sounded familiar...I have a copy of HTTrack on my workstation that I hadn't used since 2008. The latest version looks a tad more robust. ;)

Last time I needed this I couldn't get httrack to work properly. (don't remember the details) I found backstreet browser which did the same.

Unfortunately it looks like they just went from freeware to paid app. And I do mean "just," the cached page from 1-20 still shows the freeware 3.1 version. You can still find the older free version at various dl sites.
