Title: My gun is drawn, I'm surrounded by police, they shut down my street, EMT is here
Post by: dogboy on January 14, 2011, 10:10:39 PM
...looks like my neighbor is in for it.  I saw 2 marked cars behind mine so I went outside only to realize I popped out smack dab in a negotiation of some sort and they had cops everywhere, not just behind me.  Once I realized this wasn't just a traffic violation, I started back peddling, only to hear a cop yell (in a serious cop voice) to the guy in the house, 'don't worry about what he (me) is doing'...

...And then I dipped back inside, locked the doors, and got away from the windows.

So far it's a stalemate. I assume if they don't push everything will hopefully calm down. Until then, I guess we're all in lockdown.

A couple years ago there were about 10 cop cars outside my house. Turns out they were after my neighbor for some domestic violence I think. Earlier in the morning (2 or 3 AM) I heard a ton of shouting and then saw a pretty ragged looking woman leave the house and walk down the street.

The cops surrounded the house and were banging on the door and yelling for about 45 minutes before the door was opened. Figured they would have broke down the door before that. All in all it was kind of interesting to watch.

Hope your situation gets resolved quickly.

A sniper in full tactical gear, with scoped bolt action, just knocked on my door and asked me if I had a ladder to get on my roof because his 'target' was across the street.  He told me to stay in the house away from the windows.

They are talking through a bullhorn, calling for 'hands up'. They lit up sirens

7 shots now. Sound muffled 9mm coming from the house.

Then bull horn again but I grabbed my girl and took her into the closet so I can't hear.

Now I guess we wait for either all hell to break loose or an all's clear.

Sniper just knocked again and said, 'we're all done here, we disconnected your motion sensor lights, you just have to screw the bulbs in' and walked away.

I guess we'll read what happened in the paper.

I use to have things like this happen in front of my house a lot, but I my old neighborhood was a shit-hole.  DB lives in a nice upper-class neighborhood.

Gosh we don't have that kind of excitement around here.  We are all like the "Whoo's down in Whooville."

Glad you and yours are okay dogboy.  Also hope the sniper didn't punch holes in your roof shingles.

Thanks boys.  I don't think we were in any real danger but so much random bad stuff has been happening around me I didn't want my girl to take some errant bullet if I could help it.

A few days ago Pablo Popovitch (the owner of the jiu-jitsu school I train at) lost his mother in the mudslide that killed 200 in brazil. His father, who I trained with, is in a coma. Their house is off the foundation and in pieces. He just left there a week ago and everything was perfect.

I think when your number is up, it's up. But I still ride my bike and still wear all my gear. Life isn't a destination.

update: it was tear gas (or whatever they shoot into the house) not the guy shooting.  I read the article online today and they didn't mention any shots fired, which got me thinking, then I talked with my other neighbor and they confirmed it.

So no one got hurt, which is nice to hear.

This may sound like a stupid question.  But why would they need a sniper for a suicide attempt?  I don't get it.  Hostage situation, yes, but a suicide attempt?  What am I missing?

because when a person decides to commit suicide sometimes they will take other people out then kill themselves

a funny siege i was told about by a mate of mine who works on the arm response unit, there was an incident where this guy had fired a shot then gone inside with his dog and a couple of petrol bombs thrown out of the upstairs window, 2 more shots were heard and then total silence from within the house then onwards

police set up a major incident centre, choppers in the air, press storm down to the area etc etc and its all over the news 24/7, a neighbour who lived facing the house was videoing everything and putting it on youtube so the police had to stop him in case the man in the house facing was watching the news and could see what the police was up to

anyway 5 days later the police finally decide to storm the house and found the guy and his dog dead upstairs, i said to my mate did no one even think to knock on the door to see what reaction would happen after 2 days seeing nothing had been heard, he just laughed and said why would we want to do that we was all on triple time after the first day. bobbies on other shifts would request to go on that job after they had finished their normal shift they was earning that much....it cost a fortune to police that one and the guy had been dead for 5 days

a case in London last year were a barrister was in his flat high on a mixture of drink and what ever else and granted he had been firing a gun out of the flat window, he was surrounded with 58 armed police, a policeman in charge said turn the spotlight on which startled the man and ended up riddled with bullets

I forget the amount found in his body but it was certain more than one which these guys are highly trained to take a person out with, pardon the pun but that was overkill for just one person

My neighbors did not call the police...they resolved the neighborhood's dispute by themselves  ;)

>sometimes they will take other people out then kill themselves

Exactly. If you kill yourself in your house then there is no problem.  But if you make it known you are going to kill yourself, then don't, then apparently SWAT gets called, they fill your house with gas and bouncing rubber balls, and then you go to jail.  Chalk another one up to 'say as you do and and do as you say'.

Honestly, I really don't know what the charges are for locking yourself in your house and not killing yourself.

>why would they need a sniper
man, if you saw how badass these guys were, maybe they just wanted to brag.  I was chatting with Jason yesterday about similar experiences; it took me about 5 seconds to properly identify what this guy was standing in front of me in the dark.  I peeked out the door to see what was going on, and a voice said, 'go back inside and stay there', and I responded like my mom slapped my hand in the cookie jar.  That voice rang of authority and of someone saying something out of an interest for my safety, and I didnt even question it before bolting the door.  2 seconds later is when he knocked looking for the ladder.  He had already disabled the lights so when I opened the door, so I couldnt see and I was expecting a man dressed in blue, not urban combat gear.  And all I could focus on was the gigantic scope on his rifle, which for whatever reason, jumped out me as being out of place too, although once we get out 50yards, I guess that is what I would grab against one person as well, in that situation.

But I assume he was just the sniper in that team, and when they are deployed, the whole team goes no matter what, so they stay self contained... so it's not like they needed a sniper, its just that he came with the package.

>the guy had been dead for 5 days

yeah, these guys must have read that story on their coffee break and decided that was not going to be the case here, w funding going down the drain.  I'm not sure where the happy median is here but I think it should be maybe longer than a few hours.  I dunno.  Just seemed too fast for me.  But maybe that is the goal.  Everything was chill then all of a sudden there was no question they were going to go in.  I could imagine being in my house, thinking things were going fine, then I hear the sirens which hadnt been sounded, then the bullhorn... time to choose, FAST.  Then whatever they shot into the house... I don't know, I guess it worked this time. With hostages it would be completely different.

>>maybe they just wanted to brag

exactly its all about bragging rights

same mate had on his phone a copy of the CCTV camera when a guy was stood on the pavement waving a large knife at another policeman, you saw two police cars arrive at the same time which was my mate and his backup, both of them shout very loudly at the same time drop the knife then both of them at the same time fired their tasers.....it certainly did the trick as the guy is riddling about on the floor with both the tasers in him

he was the first person in Lancashire to fire a taser when they first got given to the police, it was at a girl who would not lie down when told too

he has told me lots of stories and we always have a good laugh about them :)
