How impenetrable is your bubble?
One in seven Americans do not use the internet at all. I wonder at this point whether I know a single person who is not on the internet essentially every day.
When I have trouble understanding what is happening socially/culturally/politically and I encounter a fact like that, I realize how big my bubble is. How much of the world is not part of my world.
The statistics broken down by classification are telling: largely low income, low education, older and more rural -- they are probably left behind in many ways.
And African-Americans are also disproportionately off the 'net.
I wonder what the chances are that a poor, older, African-American making less than $30,000 (bottom income category) uses the internet.
