Anybody up for one?
London, Nottingham or Manchester is good for me
So is March
Anyone?
in
yup.
In x 2
In... dates? Its my Birthday that month, so always a busy time being taken out :P
Got the place - any March dates you can't do?
If non inner-core people come do we have to stand outside looking forlornly through the window? ;)
Won't be able to go unfortunately. However for newbies, we will probably get more action than the inner core - just look how many of them smoke and will have to do the chatting outside whilst puffing.
it's a distinct possibility
Nothing specific, cannot do the last w/e, and have promised to go with a mate to climb Snowdon with his children one w/e.
Are you missing us already? ;) March is looking pretty free. Count me in. Prefer Nottingham or Manchester.
>>>Prefer Nottingham or Manchester
ditto
I can make about 50% of the weekends in March, would love a trip to Manchester again.
Where you from Elaine?
At the mo it's looking like Manchester
Anybody else?
The lovely NE coast, just east of Miseryborough - Redcar, although in my defence I'm originally a true Yorkshire lass from Leeds - shame about the football last night, but, hey ho, look what happened last year when we beat Man Utd :( - and travels not a problem - as long as it's not down in the nether regions of Wales or the South East.
Elaine, I get up to Saltburn on the odd occasion, a beautiful Victorian Town isn't it?
I have walked down Red Car beach, in low winter light, and the trains in the steel works look so tiny.... Amazing sight. A coastline of extremes.
Great Kite surfing spot I believe....
I can't do over-nighters at the moment, so out of London / Manchester / Nottingham London is the only one I could manage in March.
I'm new here, but if the invite extends to people like me then I'm always up for meeting people.
thesaintv12.... of course :)
Sorting Dates and places is always tricky, with these good folk. It is a bit like herding cats I am told.
We have a month, March, and Manchester.
How about the 5th? Or should it be in the week? Where did we stay last time? It had free wireless I seem to remember. :)
Last couple of meets we had in Manchester, we stayed at the Britannia Hotel

What about the great capital city of ours :)
Edinburgh!
Cardiff!
Probably best that i won't be able to make it. Sounds like I wouldn't be able to undertand all those foreign accents anyway.
Jason, now thats ridiculous :)
nice place, cheap flights from allover, good beer :)
Jason ......... what bit of we are having the meeting in Manchester did you not understand ?
Wait for the TT? Might get Dogboy over for that.
TBH when I suggested the idea, I thought we should go wherever is the least amount of travelling required.
Now if it was in the summer, that would be a different matter.
OK so back to Manchester 5th March?
Probably and no from me and PaulH as we will be on our way back from Vegas
Anyone else going?
Doug
Doug, you do keep banging on about Vegas - you're as bad as some other folk I know ;)
oh dear - can't make March 5th as the best conference in the fair city of Leeds is on that date - http://www.thinkvisibility.com/ - can't miss that Mr Hodgeson would be very annoyed :(
Manchester on 5th March sounds good to me.
Vegas
Trying to find out if anyone else going or me and Paul with some rich people
Doug
Anybody up for it, pm me
Should be ok for most dates. Decide and let us know.
do a nice place:):)
I'm in can't do the 19th but can do any other date.
Maybe in Leeds then on the 5th at Think viz... Or is that packing too much into the one night....
IOM the flights tend to be more expensive than going to Vegas.
Leadscon is a good show, but I won't be going this year, other things to be keeping me busy. I'm doing adtech SF the following month and that west coast back and forth is starting to hit, must be me getting older.
March is reasonably free for me, just need to know where and when.
In respect of hotels, I have a hotel booking web site, if people book through that why don't I just put the commish behind the bar for some drinks. Or if someone else has higher rate commish (i.e. does more in hotels) then they can take care of it instead. Seems like a non-brainer. If you work on the basis of even say 10 people in single rooms costing £80 a night that is £800 and at say 8% commish that runs to £65 of booze, not a huge amount I know, but might be two rounds for the 10.
OK, time to shake the tree.
Is this going to happen on March 5th or is it dead in the water?
OK Jetboy - here's your answer.
The majority of folks seem happy with the 5th March.
Some of us are booked into the Britannia Hotel, Portland Street. http://www.britanniahotels.com/hotels/manchester
I was talking last night to mick g and he suggests we eat on Saturday evening in Chinatown as most folks like Chinese food, plus they tend to have straight English food on the menu too and there are plenty of restaurants around Chinatown of varying sizes to accomodate us.
The Saturday afternoon meet will be at the Ape and Apple pub - as used once before - SEO Roadshow?
Some good people coming, but all, veterans and newbies, are welcome.
Please feel free to post long reasons why you can't make it and I promise I'll ignore them ;D
Nope, no excuses. Booked in on the 4th and 5th, and I've learned over the years that Mick is excellent and his taste in restaurants isn't half bad, so Saturday sounds good to me. :)
* Edited as per Mick's advice ;)
>>>>>Mick's taste in restaurants isn't half bad
i think you need to edit your post to say "is excellent" :)
anyway the restaurant i have in mind is the kwok man what is within walking distance from the hotel
http://www.kwokman.com/
sadly there is absolutely f u c k all on the website but believe me when i say its one of the best restaurants in Manchester for Chinese food, as they say if the Chinese eat there then its got to be good
bon appetite and see you there.......
Booked in at the Brittania on the 5th.
Look forward to Mick G welcoming me into an empty hotel room and shooting me in the head ;D (see Inner Core thread)
Cheers,
Ed
QuoteLook forward to Mick G welcoming me into an empty hotel room and shooting me in the head
It stings like ****
Nothing that a couple of phensic won't shift though.
>>>>>>>Look forward to Mick G welcoming me into an empty hotel room and shooting me in the head
luckily for you this time it will be jetboy having the head shot...........for taking the piss ;D
And where are you going to hide the body, huh? Oh yeah, under the driveway... :(
... yeah another ugly lump in his blockpaving won't be noticed.
..ermm... suspect that might be two ugly lumps now
speedbumps?
>>>>>speedbumps?
it certainly would be if you was lay on your back gurtie :)
well, its one way to get men to slow down & look at the scenery.....
Anyway. Booked for Friday and Saturday but will find you all in the bar late friday as I have plans for heavy drinking in the afternoon. Please count us in for Saturday (x2) If this chinese is better than the Happy-Birthday-Chinese-Warehouse-of-fun, or whatever it was called, I'll be impressed!
>>>>>How far is Leeds to Manc ?
423 miles as the crow flies
oh what a shame its too far for you to nip over for a quick chat and a drink ;)
yellooooo
Sorry I am also at Thinkvis that weekend :(
"I never can tell if Mick is being sarcastic or honest. In time I'll try to find out which it is in any situation!"
He can do both at the same time. Most disconcerting. ;)
If you're not coming, fuck off
Well and truly fucked off. Might piss you off by turning up anyway.
well it took you long enough to use the worlds biggest search engine to find the distance between both cities :P
your always welcome Jason you know that...........looks round for spare bullet..... ;D
We'll have nowt to do with Yorkshire round 'ere Jason - sayin' it were a few 'undred miles away were just wishful thinkin;
>>>>>And for all the wonders of Google asking a few mates who live in that part of the world is surely still acceptable!
put your bottom lip away and stop your southern poncy sulking
>>>>>f### off you northern git!
never mind the war of the roses the north and darn souf divide just got wider...........
Looks like we'll be eating at the Ocean Treasure on Saturday evening.
http://www.oceantreasure235.co.uk/
We need to know how many people are up for it so we can book. Please reply to this asap.
Thanks to Mick G for sorting this.
In
I'm in like flint for Friday and Saturday nights. Book me for the meal with a possible plus 1.
Excited.

In Vegas:(
Doug - shouldn't that be...
In Vegas ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
???? Why do people like Vegas?
... nah, don't answer that, I guess I know... but if you are one of those who DOES like Vegas, just be aware that somewhere there is at least one very long 'scale' that you and I are at opposite ends of.
I'm not exactly sure how to rephrase this, but
If you're not coming, fuck off
I think what Peter is trying to say is can we keep the noise for another thread and post if your coming to Manchester on the 5th March as numbers are needed to book the restaurant
as much as its probably a big and exciting thing to you attending what ever prior arrangements you have already made traveling to a foreign country and Leeds sadly it is not applicable for this thread
QuoteIf you're not coming, f### off
Not really mastered that balance of 'incentive' and 'deterrent' yet, eh Pete.
I never had this kind of trouble when I used to organize meetings.
I'm up for the Saturday meal and meeting some folk (being new to here).
Car Sharing...
I'll probably be driving down on the saturady morning from Edinburgh (and back up directly after the event - even if it's the early hours - or on Sunday morning), anyone needing a lift anywhere along the route (room for 1 comfortably in passenger seat and another 2 in the back, probably best for short people or not very long as not a great deal of room).
Also, what time does it usually start and end? Guessing the end bit is a piece of string, but would be nice to know if driving back up the road is possible on the day - no drinks for me :(
Thanks
it will be good to meet you inbound :)
start time I would be say 1 - 2pm in the afternoon but there are people staying on the Friday night too so they will be around Saturday morning, evening meal say 7.30 - 8-00pm so finish dining around 9.30 - 10pm ish then back to the hotel or another place to have a drink and the end can be open ended to last man standing

You must have one of these then http://tinyurl.com/27treaz - not much room in the back. :D
I've PMd you.
You coming Trashboy?
At the moment I'm not but that may change closer to the date.
OK - we've got enough people
If you want to come, but have not registered interest with me by now - then you can't come
*cough* what peter was trying to say was your more than welcome to join us
FFS shakes head in disbelief........ ::)
.. the only reason Peter talks like that is cos he is 6ft 3" and covered in tattoos.
Where are his tatts????
Have we got a role call.
We are a nice bunch, so all you lot sitting on the fence get your ass to Manchester.
Say what you like Mick - it got one more to commit :D
>We are a nice bunch,
Sharks - all of them ... only with posh accents.
Heh. ;D
Quote... only with posh accents.

It would be great it if you can make it to Manchester - it would give me another chance at proving how good British beer is for you :)

Arriving Friday afternoon 3ish
Whos in for what days.
Friday and Saturday for me.
Friday and Sat for me too although I think I will be latish Friday.
Looks like the correct city has been selected for the meet according to Foursquare
http://engineering.foursquare.com/2011/02/28/how-we-found-the-rudest-cities-in-the-world-analytics-foursquare/
Of all the places in all the world......
That is simply because phrases such as 'you daft bugger' are classed as terms of endearment up here.
As it stands Friday and leave Saturday just before the meal. However hubby is quite ill so have to make sure he is going to be fit enough to look after the little one, I may have to cancel at the last minute.
I'm in Sat night, have you got me? Just about to book a room, rather than riding back in the dark.
I will be there sometime Friday - staying Friday and Saturday
4eyes, will be good to catch up! To anyone put off by the Northern humour, do please come if you can make it. It will not be nearly as loud as it seems it will be in this thread.
Arriving Sat lunchtime. Look forward to joining people at the pub. Will be coming in my WOW costume.

Okay now I wont be there Friday night but will meet up with you guys on Saturday 11-12ish and leave early evening.
So don't book me in for any meals. Looking forward to seeing you guys it has been too long.
That went well :)
Thanks to Peter and Mick for making it happen.
Great to catch up again.
Thanks for the time spent sorting stuff out.
Cheers
Rich
Good to know you guys had a good time.
Next time we need to come along and learn some of that British arrogance ;-)
a great night as always and a big thanks to everyone who came especially Ed who traveled up from Bristol, a great guy who fits in well with our humor :)
Good to see everyone... Rich, Colin, Mark, missed you at Breakfast ::)
Thanks for a great weekend, was good fun and great company.
Manchester on a Saturday, like being on the set of Big Fat Gypsy Wedding....just perfect.
Yeah - wasn't too bad actually.
Might go to another in a couple of years time.
