Title: Good reliable hosting in the UK?
Post by: Rumbas on January 17, 2011, 11:51:34 AM
Got a UK site that we'd like hosted in the UK.

- good control panel/dashboard to handle everything.
- mysql, php  eg. a host for a Wordpress site.

Suggestions welcome!

I've found Nativespace pretty good for hosting small site(s)

£3.11 + VAT a month, can host multiple sites

Haven't had any downtime issues, and seems reasonably quick.

Agree with BoL - Nativespace has been very good for me. Also Heart has never let me down although others I have spoken to have been sceptical.

I've heard good stuff about gloucestershirehosting.co.uk too.  I'd also suggest clook.co.uk and webhosting.uk.com .  Clook have great support - really quite impressive. I'm trialling whuk for some minor stuff at the moment and so far they are proving good too.

I've recently gone with Clook and am seriously impressed with their customer service. I automatically asked about their premium servers and the nice gentleman suggested I'd be fine with one of their less expensive ones - which I have been.

Yet, our merchant business suffered serious downtime because of Rackspace,  because the 'mirror' server was dead for a whole year - and we didn't find out until the main server upped and died as well - cost us a packet and totally screwed up our automatic stock control - nightmare :(

I used clook for 4 years or so... support was generally pretty good - I only left them cos I was moving everything to VPS and their's were seriously overpriced.

I know use FutureHosting for my UK VPS - support is at least as good as Clook, but there has been a bit of downtime - not directly their fault it seems, but irritating just the same.

Freewind are quite useful in terms of helping out if you have a specific request for something.

Used 34sp, clook and heart in the past and no complaints about any of them...

I use 34sp, PurpleCloud, Krystal Hosting and NSdesign all reliable with pretty good support and all under £30 a year

I also use Freezone but they are a pain in the ass!

Register1 are great, and is £25 + VAT per year for the basic package. The support is only by email, but is the fastest I've ever received from a host. The only downside is that they are *very* quick to suspend your account if you forget to renew after 12 months.

I second Krystal, they are the best all-rounders I have found so far.
