So far we have:
Drastic
Littleman
Who else? What is your goal?
I am in for 4 sessions a week of weight training and upping my general physical activity, doing more skateboarding, walking, maybe even a little running.
I'm in for 4, hoping to work back to 5 by end of this session.
Mix of vball and gym, maybe some two-a-days at some point.
Just the two of us...
Glad you're still committed even with the injury!
First week, off to an excellent start. 6/4:
3x gym
3x vball
One night was 6 straight games of sand doubles, a first for me. The (braced) ankle is doing great.
This week I have 4 straight nights of vball planned, which will be another milestone test. 2 straight indoor, then 2 sand. I hope to hit gym on Friday and sand vball again on Sunday. Weather permitting, shooting for 6 again this week with minimum of 5 unless a sand session gets rained out which will drop the goal to my normal 4 for this week.
Nice week Dras! 6x total, pretty good!
The shoulder injury is a bit of a nag and let's.me.know it is there. I've been avoiding exercises that aggravate it, but I am still doing what I can. Diet wise I'm doing something I think RC would appreciate, I'm going deep low carb (ketogenic) and mixing in intermittent fasting -- feels like I'm hacking my body composition.
4/4/for week one.
I don't have a real goal that's motivating me right now other than "get out more"
Last week was pretty lame, but on the weekend we hiked/climbed White Mountain near Tioga Pass and crossed over to Conness and then on Sunday did Tenaya Peak, which is an easy rock climb. It's been a while since I've gotten two consecutive days where I spent most of the day covering distance with just my own legs and arms to power me. Felt very good, physically and mentally.
>Last week was pretty lame
That's pretty funny Ergophobe because it sounds like a good amount of physical activity to me.
Cudos guys.
I'm not the one who's going to let you two do this on your own.
I'm in - however been struggling with my back but finally got into a 6 week training program with the physio. Good motivation as I'm going on a team for those 6 weeks pushing each other twice a week. Been taking a couple of gym sessions with my friend on top as 4 weeks vacation tipped the scale above 100 kgs. and a feeling like shit.
Going for 3 workouts a week - 4 and I'm golden.
Nice to have you in the group Rumbas!
I am in too.
no race goals. Just keep going after travelling. 10 lbs lighter and I like it.
Rumbas, that back is really rumbling on. I do hope you get on top of it soon.
Ergo you do seem to punch high with your activity levels.... ::)

I meant midweek, when I did close to nothing. I think one short run.
The weekend was great. More of that and I'd be feeling really fit. Consistency has been my big issue lately.
Good to see you in here Rupert, congratulations on the 10 pounds!
Did my usual 4/4.
Just 4 last week. Volleyball for 2 hours every evening Monday through Thurs. Gave myself three days off - ankle doing great though.
A little better - a bike ride and two runs
Also have gotten back into my "rock lifting" during my lunch walk now that it's not so blazing hot - overhead squats, deadlifts, Jefferson curls (new one for me). Light weight. They feel heavy, but I think I put them on the scale they would just feel a lot heavier than a bar of the same weight.
178
Way to keep at it RC.
was 173 just before Hanoi
So week 2 I guess.
2 runs,
2 tennis
1 swim
1 bike ride
A bank holiday is good for me.
I did notice in Peru, despite (or because?) it is a relatively poor country, they suffer from excess weight too. They eat a lot of carbs, and coca cola is big there.
My Weight's up 1 1/2 LBs
3/4
3 good workouts and 4 days walking the golf course at the European Tour.
>was 173 just before Hanoi
I am sitting at 1-2 lbs. above my pre-Hanoi weight. I've been doing well most days diet wise but there were a few social occasions where I stayed.
Rupert, that's quite a bit of activity.
Rumbas, its good to see you making an effort despite the injury.
So more gadgets to help control weight:

Good week, busted my ass and got
5/4
Feeling a lot better lately.
Glad to hear it Raz!
4 here....vball m-th nights, 9 hours total.
Great work guys..
2 runs
1 tennis
A bit disappointed with myself
Two runs and one short bike ride.
I also finished my patio project which in the final phase involved mixing sand and concrete, carrying buckets of it and carrying some pretty heavy rocks over rough ground (over 150 pounds I'm pretty sure - two of them felt about like a 200 pound deadlift to get them off the ground, but I find rocks feel heavier than bars). Felt that in my shoulders the next day.
4/4 for me.
Another week gone by. so how are we all doing?
Not so good here.
1 run ...
1 tennis...
mmm. A mate did a Half Ironman. Its his fault :)
4/4 here. It was a good week of lifting.
Mellow week.
I got in a big mountain bike ride after work - 24.2 miles, 3200 feet of vertical gain... but then I kind of lazed around. Went for a run on Saturday and that was it.
So 2/4 I think
Trying to get back into my routine of doing my pushups and pullups throughout the day too. And I lift my rocks at lunch time most days, but that's fairly minimal. Mostly just to get my legs stretched and blood flowing.
3/4
Only 3 last week due to the holiday. I'm committed to playing ball 4 nights/week, weather permitting for 2 nights. Holding off on the gym b/c no time.
Off for a bike ride tonight with same partner... the last one was almost a four-hour ride after work, which wouldn't have been so bad except that there was only three hours of daylight.
This time we have headlamps ;-)
QuoteThis time we have headlamps ;-)
OMG.. I hope it was moon lit last time!
Not even a quarter moon, but we were back to a fairly decent dirt road by the time it was really dark. It was enough to tell where the road was, but not "see" it. It was sort of strange, kind of halucinatory. Very similar to a grainy image taken in low light. But we kept it slow and nobody died.
Got back in daylight last night. We got a little lost, but ended up at an old mining camp with tons and tons of ripe currants around it. Project for today is to try to find it on the map!
QuoteProject for today is to try to find it on the map!
Ha Ha! Thats where a phone takes away the fun.
2 runs
1 tennis
Other bits of walking the dog.
Its and OK week
3/4
Gym workouts.
Made it a point to walk above 10,000 steps every day on average as well. Been hitting that for 2+ months now.
5 x vball this week. 4 league nights (7 matches, 5-2) plus open play on Sunday for ~10 hours total.
4/4 gym workouts
Good week.
- two nice mountain bike rides with friends and Theresa
- a run up Royal Arches - http://www.supertopo.com/rock-climbing/Yosemite-Valley-Royal-Arches-Area-Royal-Arches - took me 37:30 for the climb itself, which is as fast as I did it when I was climbing a lot.
- climbing with friends on Sunday and then harvested about 10 pounds elderberries.
With my current biking/running bias, it's a nice change to feel that all-body tired I get from climbing.
Shitty week, too much work and a couple of sick days..
Did 75,000 steps though.
1/4
4xvball all league nights. Had to take Sunday off, joints needing a break.
Had a good week of lifting, 4/4. The shoulder is feeling good, but I'm still nursing it.
Lazy week... I think I just went for one short run, a short climbing session and a walk/bike around the neighborhood
2/4 :-(
Rubbish week here too.
1 Run, glut pulling, so rolling out. Tried to go out for a second, came home.
2 tennis. But not very hard.
Only 1 last week.
Have some major tendonitis in my elbow, tennis elbow maybe.
Taking over a week off to heal, going to test it out Wednesday night since it's doing better this week.
179
Zero Tennis,
Zero runs
a couple of "stiff" walks. Glut playing up!
Four good workouts this week. The shoulder is feeling good. I think one advantage of being formerly obese is that it is fairly easy for me to add muscle to my chassis. Diet wise, I am still very low carb and doing a 16-8 split feeding window.
My 16 y.o. daughter keeps making lots of progress, she's now repping deadlifts @ 145 in sets of 6 where before 150 was her one rep max. She's telling me that next weekend she's going to do sets @ 150.
Good for her!
Another mediocre week in terms of effort. Great week in terms of pleasure - a run, some climbing, a hike to Ostrander Lake (beautiful fall scenery with a nip in the air and a threat of snow, but it in the end it didn't snow (it was forecast to be 50% chance of snow).
>snow
Yeah, it is raining here right now and feels cold, so it may be on the way!
3/4
Pretty good week. Upped the cardio a bit and try to throw in 20-30 minutes in every work-out.
2/4 last week, elbow seems to be healing ok after a 1.5 week break.
Hoping to hit the full 4 this week.
QuoteMy 16 y.o. daughter keeps making lots of progress,
Must be a good motivator for you :)
2 games of tennis... thats it. Still stretching glut. doing a few exercises about the house, but should be more.

Yes it is. As expected she's now repping at 150lbs. for deadlifts. She said "Someday I'm going to be stronger than you dad." I said yes she will, but hopefully it will take a while. Anyway she's now working out with me four days a week instead of just the weekends.
4/4
>179
Good job keeping disciplined RC.
Littleman - that rocks. Glad to hear she's doing hard things ;-)
Good week - 5/4
Mostly running with a bit of climbing.
4/4
I'm still doing IF most days. I've recently cut out artificial sweeteners from my diet -- I have to confess that I do enjoy sweet coffee. It is interesting that sucralose seems to stimulate my appetite. Anyway, I've been studying up on insulin suppression and making that more my goal than ketosis per say, though there seems to be a lot of overlap in dietary practice.
4/4 last week, all vball.
0/4
Vegas...
However apparently Tom tried to drive me down to the gym on Friday in Vegas.. was on my way out though.
Hopefully this week will be better.
>interesting that sucralose seems to stimulate my appetite
Same or anything vaguely carbish. If I have breakfast I could eat all day, if not more than happy to go to 2 or 3pm without anything at all.
IF suits me very well, invites to dinner here tends to mess that up!
That's exactly how it is for me. It is nice too, because later in the day I could eat a couple of nice hardy meals and feel satisfied.
2/4 - did better than expected at Pubcon, but then fizzled on the rainy weekend and couldn't get motivated for running in the rain

I thought you said you had most of the day in Vegas. My flight ended up being an hour earlier than I realized, so it was a quick workout and an even quicker brunch at the Wynn.
Fun to see a lot of old (increasingly!) faces though. Sad to see some regulars missing.
Yeah, SAS changed my flight from 15:00 to 11:15 Good thing I checked their app Friday morning.
Pleasure meeting you and the wife Tom :)
4/4 and a good week
http://stateofobesity.org/adult-obesity/ <- motivation
2/4
Slowly getting back. Thanks for the motivation LM, needed that.
5 last week. 4 nights of league vball play. All day rec tourney on Sat. I did nothing but doze in and out yesterday.
2/4. a couple of runs. Thats good considering. Was at the coast for the week so loads of stretching out the glut, and rolling on a tennis ball.
175.5
>close
Yeah, but getting there has been tougher than usual. As I age, my metab is apparently slowing. Even with significant daily exercise working on my various projects, I'm having to stay <20 carbs 5 or 6 days of the week to lose anything. Breaking out of the plateaus takes forever, too.
And now the holiday & travel season starts....
What type of exercise are you doing?
light construction.
You might be gaining muscle which is countering your fat loss.
>gaining muscle
That'd be good. One of the things I miss about being 240 (and younger/stronger) is the ability to kill someone with a swipe of the back of my hand.
I think I'm going to fail to get out for a run in this rain, but... I'm going to say 4/4. Did some other short walks, but I exerted myself that many days.
We spent last week in Death Valley, which is incredible. Amazing place that most people know only by stereotype, including those who actually visit, but tick off Badwater (lowest point in the western hemisphere) and maybe Zabriski Point. But the place is huge (about 700 miles of driveable unpaved roads) and varied (over 11,000 feet of change between the high point and the low point.
I never been to DV, it is a place I've always wanted to go to though. I'd imagine it was a great time of year to be there.
4/4 We did the last workout today and neither of us were too in the mood for weight training. We pushed through it though and ended up having a pretty good workout.
You folks are doing well.
2/4. a game of tennis no runs.
! do ache all over having spent a day replacing the shed roof. 24 metal sheets to lift up and then screw into place. so thats the second.
175
>never been to DV
Me neither, it's on my bucket list, for sure. In preparation, I spent 20 minutes in the sauna last night and topped out at 131F. Man! I can sure feel the stress on my body at that temp just sitting there. I can't imagine having to walk around in that heat.
5/4 - 4x vball league nights, rode dirt for the first time this year sat. Still sore.
Rupert, that's a workout for sure -- sounds like something RC would be doing.
>175,
Nicely done. Back to pre-VN weight.
>bucket list
Do you want to experience the heat? If you avoid the Summer months it isn't the scorcher it is famous for.
http://www.usclimatedata.com/climate/death-valley/california/united-states/usca0286
Dras, can you just get on your bike and start riding from your house? I had a friend who lived in Nevada and that is what it was like for him. He could just ride right into the desert.
(you may have answered this before for me?)
I wish I could. It's about a 45 min haul where we usually ride. Next house will have some type of track, trails or both.
>>I never been to DV
It was *never* a place I wanted to go and in fact disliked the first two days I was there (two years ago). Then we got *slightly* off the beaten track and it was love at third sight. I wanted to stay for a month... and was ready to buy a dirt bike. A capable off-road bike would be amazing in DV.
Our first visit was in February and we got snowed on. This visit we varied between a light puffy jacket and hoodie to summer gear. I'd say the hottest was about 85F and the coldest was perhaps just below freezing. At this point I've spent a total of 12 days there, but with 700 miles of dirt roads and a park larger by 20% in land area than Connecticut (not counting the massive areas around it that are just as wild and remote as the park), I've only scratched the surface and feel like I only have the vaguest sense of the place. Still, if you're going, hit me up.
4/4
Just realized we need to start another profound.
4/4
How about the next round goes through Dec 31?
Lots of people make resolutions on January 1 and the round after the next one can be the Core Commit resolution keep round
works for me!
Sounds good. Do you want to manage the next round Ergophobe?
Sure
Hi All - I guess we'll do last week's check in here in this thread
