Title: YouTube Declares War on Politically Incorrect Opinions
Post by: Mackin USA on September 01, 2016, 06:48:42 PM

YouTube's new policy will completely disincentivize YouTubers from discussing politically incorrect topics or expressing controversial opinions because they know they will be punished for doing so. Many YouTubers make a living off their channel and will therefore be walking on eggshells to avoid the company's stringent new rules.

That's a very inclusive list.

I was expecting "hate speech, inciting violence" and things like that which are a genuine problem on the internet. I was not expecting "partial nudity" and "profanity"

Sometimes this gets absurd - I had Facebook ads removed because they showed a guy lifting weights with his shirt off and another one with a woman wearing tight, but not particularly skimpy workout clothes. They failed the partial nudity test.

Related: I learned a new, derogatory acronym a few months ago; SJW --Social Justice Warrior.

This should open the door a bit for vimeo.

Isn't this more of a change to the way they are enforcing it than a change to the policy?  The policies seem to be inline with the general platform policy unless i've missed something.

I know that everyone on youtube is whining about this, but it's being really misrepresented.  If you run ads (anywhere) you need to adhere to content policies. Having standard policies allows the network to sell ads.  The policies are the same across the google network and allow Google to sell the space in a consistent way for a higher price - something that benefits the publishers.

All the cries of censorship are just such bollocks. They are not saying you can't publish the content, just that they can't sell advertising on it for you if you don't adhere to the advertiser content policies.  They've even got an appeal policy in place (for once).  The rules are mental because those are what the buyers (or more likely, those representing the buyers) demand.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar weighs in....

In general, I think on issues of race in America, Kareem is one of the most interesting voices. He often presents a perspective that broadens my perspective and makes me see things differently, as in this case. If only *he* were running for president. And let's face it, a guy who learned Jeet Kune Do with Bruce Lee can probably hold his own against Putin ;-)

I came across this article in the print version and there was a chart there that is missing here that gave me a lot of pause for thought.

68% of white men think we have become overly sensitive with respect to language
67% of blacks feel we are not sensitive enough

Being in the 68% this has given me a lot to think about why those proportions are so different among people who look different than I do.

Same article, if you prefer the Washington Post

The problem is that the most extreme PC people are the ones that get in your face.

It's not even alternative or controversial opinions, their software that spots those sort of channels is crap, it's demonetizing mental-health channels, rape support channels, anti-suicide channels.

There's only one thing worse than a fascist and that's an idiotic fascist with blunt tools.
