£35,000 and £45,000 for a straight-6 barn coupe, these things sure have gone up in value.  I remember when you still could get a 12 cylinder for $10,000.

It's a coupe. Throw the tarp back over it and push it back in the barn.

I'd like to have the ragtop, 12-cyl version and have seriously considered trading the Mcfarlan and Big Healy for one. But, at the end of the day, the XKE still rides like a stone and is a $$$-PITA to keep.

Yeah but they look so cool.

The coupe was appropriately knick-named the 'pregnant guppie,' IIRC. The 2+2 version was particularly horrific.

The 2 + 2 version does not count as a Jag.

The E Type is a glorious car but NOT in it's convertible form. Only as this particular car is, is it worth having.

However, a much more practical and equally beautiful (IMO) Jag is this

XJ V12 ...you have to drop the engine to change the power steering pump on that one.  But, yes, it is the only Jag after the XKE than makes my wallet quiver.

I love the looks of the XJS, but aren't they plagued with electrical and mechanical problems?  They are still pretty affordable in the states.  I just checked craigslist and the range seems to be $4k - $10k.

If you do buy, be sure to buy 2 so you have 1 to drive while the other is in the shop.

I'm very familiar the the XJS V12, and you'd just end up with 2 in the shop.

<added>
But, like the XKE and the Big Healey, sometimes you buy them just for the artistry.

They were built and designed in the worst time ever for British engineering. 70s Britain and almost every car was terrible and broke down regularly. As they got older though most of the badly designed parts were rectified via owner's clubs. The pinnacle of which is a car refurbed by Knowles.

It's like having the original shell and engine with modern drive train. If i ever manage to get one, it will be one touched by Knowles

Nice.  I wish I could have one.

The E-Series Jag was always the must have Matchbox car every kid wanted. Hard to get, because they always sold out quickly around here.
