Maybe this should be in threadwatch.

A number of bit jump out at me, including this one:

Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, announced in May that that 20% of queries on its mobile app and on Android devices are voice searches.
WOW!
The content idea is pretty old hat imho.
In Mary Meeker's 2016 annual State of the Web address, she pointed out that Baidu was at 99% accuracy with voice recognition and that Google was at 95%. Analysts consider 99% the threshold at which voice becomes less frustrating and starts to take off. Google is supposedly hoping to hit 99% in the coming year.
All of this makes me wonder if Google has paid for Google Voice all these years to get data on voice recognition. They had (may still have) a program where you could edit the trnascripts of your voice messages and teach Google how to improve. A couple of years ago there was a massive improvement in the transcription quality.
Meanwhile, over at Apple... I have never turned Siri on. The latest update to the iPhone promised big improvements. So I was curious. I turned it on and spoke "Siri, play me a podcast."
Siri responded with "Calling Bart Formier" and started dialing.
