Yeah, I don't see myself getting one.
Easily managed *currently* but the default setting is 'always listening' ...and we know the power of the default.
NEVER IN OUR HOME!
Don't even want TV with webcam in mine.
(with my tin-foil hat on tight)
How do you know off is really off?
It must stay plugged in to usb power. Kill the power. It does have a button that supposedly kills the mic, but what fool would trust THAT! (Adjusts tin foil hat)
That graphic must be shared....

Same here, no smart TV's for me.
QuoteThe Missing Feature: Voice-Driven Disabling
One feature we found missing, and surprisingly so given that the whole appeal of the Echo is voice control, is the inability to turn off the microphone via voice command. If you issue a command to Alexa like "Alexa, turn off the microphone" she'll cheerily announce that there are no connected home devices that fit that description and give you instructions on how to set up the connected home features of the Alexa/Echo system.
Although we realize that issuing a voice command to turn off the microphones is a one-way street (after all Alexa won't be listening to turn them back on) it's still a feature we'd like to see in future updates.

I'm going to go watch Enemy Of The State one more time to get an idea of where we are today.
Just as well none of us carry around portable devices with mic and camera built in.
Nah! Everything is secure. Only paranoid near-luddites worry about cam intrusions.

lets see if I can dig out that old Nokia 6310i. I bet it still works, and the battery life was amazing. [/tin foil]
