I miss my potato guns.
My two favorite were my pneumatic gun that hooked up to an air compressor. Can't believe how far that thing could launch a potato. My other favorite was a modified version of that I hooked up to a scuba tank so it was more portable.
In high school, I built a beer can mortar that used M80s as the powder charge. (Remember, I was also an illegal fireworks dealer, so M80s were available to me cheap and in volume). The galvanized pipe had a bore that handled beer cans perfectly as the shell, you just had to put some sand in them. I could fire those cans almost out of sight.

But why not? Looks like a lot of fun, it's cheep and sounds a lot safer than your old m80 beer cannon which sounds like it could have killed you.

Well, THAT was cool but it only went 100 yards. I wonder if a full length of 6" pipe could make a howitzer that could fire a frozen chicken at those houses across the river?

I eventually moved up to pipe bombs. Grossly underestimated how powerful they were. Rattled windows for at least a quarter mile around. Massive hole.

I'm liking the sound of a frozen chicken cannon.
If I had a machine shop I would find something with a 1.68 inch bore. That would be the perfect size for a golf ball. Seems like that would be a fun one.
I always wanted to build a bigger cantaloupe or watermelon sized cannon but I am guessing I would have blown myself up trying to launch stuff that heavy.
For a quick and easy bomb I always liked dry ice with a bit of water in a plastic soda bottle. Not quite pipe bomb power but enough to make the neighbors nervous.
