Talking to a computer just feels awkward.

I've felt like this will be the next major step forward.... talking to your device is just too uncool.

You're saying this with the popularity of the Echo and the Google...whatever it's called?  I don't know...I think maybe people just aren't used to talking to their devices...yet.  But when this generation of kids grows up, it might be the norm.

Agreed. And if my experience with a consumer adaptation of online travel booking is a guide, it'll only be 5 years.  (I can still recall the 'You're NUTS!' look of the hotels and tourism honchos when I was evangelizing in the mid-90s.) The short time frame is why I think it'll have to leap-frog voice rather than displace it.

Look up "subvocalizations"...

Or read the long novel Existenz, which is scifi, and I thought all the subvocalization stuff was BS, until I realized they are working on it now. Not accurate yet, but give it time.
