Title: Ham-tastic
Post by: bill on February 01, 2017, 05:34:31 AM
Well, I finally followed through on my long-standing threat to get licenced.  Passed both the Technician and General amateur radio exams and am now waiting to show up in the FCC database so I'll officially be a Ham. I still have a lot to learn, but at least I'll have my ticket to operate.

Cool Bill!  How doe s the license work given that it was given by the FCC and you are in Japan?

Good job!

With all the comment on search moving to voice, is this the beginning of bill moving to voice-based virtual communities? I think the HAM people were way before and BBS communites

YEAH!!  I've always been fascinated by Ham radios...would love to see one.  It's kind of an elite group of people.

Morse is my next project. Apparently the best way to learn is by listening. They say you shouldn't try visual association because it slows you down.

Japan has a reciprocal operating agreement with the US and several other countries. As they recognize the US license, I can use that US licence to get a Japanese licence simply by presenting my certificate.

I think you're on the wrong frequency.

Yeah. those guys don't need a licence to drive around with an orangutan in their truck or do stunts in their Trans-Ams while chatting on the airwaves. I can bounce signals off the moon and meteors and chat with the international space station.
