I've been really happy with Linode since day one and now they are offering $5 instances.

I've seen places go this route and before long all their services sucked, then they get bought out and the cheap services get cut. I don't see this happening at Linode. I'm hoping this is just a reflection of how cheap a GB of memory and 20GB on a SSD are these days.
Vultr have introduced something in response
20GB SSD
$2.50/m
1 CPU
512MB Memory
500GB Bandwidth
$20 credit + $5 bonus when topping up with paypal, no doubt some obscure T & Cs apply there.
$2.50!
How on earth can they make any money!?
Apparently there's a limit of 2 of those per account. There's the catch.
I did top up with $10 and got $20 'free', though. Credit lasts a year.
:)
I think Digital Ocean put a lot of downward pressure on everyone... There has to be a fallout at some point
