Meet the Woman Trying to Prepare Your Town for the Total Eclipse

Quotefor the towns hosting those millions, it's also a logistical
nightmare. Places in the path of "totality"—where a full eclipse
occurs—will have more visitors than perhaps ever before. The website
Great American Eclipse estimates that 12.25 million people live within
the path, and between 1.85 and 7.4 million will travel to it. Those
numbers make it hard to plan for just how taxed their roads, gas
reserves, watering holes, bathrooms, and food services will be.

Spring City prepares to host a crowd four times its population during total solar eclipse

QuoteGeorge Thacker says his hotel has been booked up for almost three
years in anticipation of August's solar eclipse.

'People from Germany, Australia-- they are coming from everywhere to
Spring City,' Thacker said.

The city's manager says Thacker's hotel is one of many that are sold
out for the weekend leading up to the phenomenon, and lots of visitors
are still looking for somewhere to witness history.

All along eclipse 'zone of totality,' small towns make big bets to cash in on total darkness

QuoteThe state of Wyoming expects 250,000 visitors total, or perhaps
closer to half a million, equaling the state's population.

The eclipse is about a 3 hour drive away.  My friend and I are going to road trip it up to Grand Island, NE.

We have family in Charleston, SC. Their place has been over-booked for about 2 years now. We're taking sleeping bags.

Logistically, getting vehicle fuel might be the biggest problem after lodging, particularly in rural towns that aren't near vacation destinations. We'll top up the tank about 2 hours away from the path, that should get us in & out.

We're right in the path. I feel like I need to stock up on something.

I think Gville is big enough that it'll cope. Restaurants might be maxxed out for a day or two.

My feeds are chock-full of warnings about counterfeit glasses with no protection being sold.

Though someone else in our group is bringing a bulk pack of glasses, I picked up these from AMZ in case we don't make it or have more in the froup than expected. Check the delivery dates on any of the approved vendors. This was prime when I ordered it. Other brands from the approved list are starting to extend delivery to Aug 5-7.

Just watched the eclipse in n Corvallis.  If you are near the path, do yourself a favor and see it at 100% if you can.  It was absolutely amazing.

We're in greater Charleston. 45 minutes before total eclipse we have a massive thunderstorm. Hoping it'll clear.

Yes, we are/were in the path of totality, just over 2 minutes.

Pretty wild.

I dragged the family 530 miles out to mid Oregon, I think it was worth it.  We're talking about going to Texas in 2024 for the next one.

Littleman, we'll have to meet up in Texas in 2024.  (We can hang out with Christine Churchill of Keyrelevance...they live in Wylie, just outside of Dallas.)

Actually, why don't we plan a meetup in Dallas in 2024?

My friend and I drove up to Grand Island, NE, and I can honestly say it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
