I'm really concerned that numerous reporters may have been listening in on Trav & I at dinner last night. So far today, at least three of our topics have made press.

Damn, even our most upbeat forecasts were depressing.
I know that just thinking about something delicious will cause a small insulin spike. There's been studies before that linked artificial sweetener to elevated insulin and there is lots of data that insulin blocks the breaking down of fat storage -- essentially, when insulin is elevated it acts as a one-way valve, fat can come into cells but not out. All that together would mean that if you have calories in your system when consuming artificial sweeteners you are more likely to store those calories as fat.
On the diet drinks, we were tying together the placebo effect with sweetness --even non-sugar sweetness.

We concluded that it's not a far stretch to apply that same effect to making fat from diet drinks.
>upbeat
