Fantastic.
There's a book on Yosemite where the photographers tried to recreate photos from the earliest into the 1950s or so. Can't find it right now and don't remember the author, but very interesting stuff.

For tourism sites, I always thought that history pages gave solid content. It draws the click and consistently gets passed around on social, though not usually anywhere remotely near viral speeds. It doesn't require maintenance once it's developed except the occasional update tweak. Some of the currently hot attractions have a good historic audit trail. All-in-all, they make a solid base for a site content pyramid. Sometimes, there are buffs out there who are happy to spin a 1000 words on a subject.

He does very well in search, but I'm not sure he actually cares - he's a software engineer and it's definitely a labor of love. You can see that he launched in 1997 and hasn't changed the styling since. And for what he does, it still works just fine.
