I do rough/crude metal fabrication often enough that I needed one of these. So, go on craigslist and pick up a cheap one, right?  Wrong.  Anvils are apparently much sought-after and easily fetch $400+ (though they are heavier and anvils are priced by the pound).  After over 2 years of scanning craigslist to no avail, I happened to wonder if Amz had one.  Damn, they did!  Good size and reasonably priced with FREE SHIPPPING.  Bingo. Done.

And it was $79 when I ordered it.
